Therapy for the Sports Fans

Posted on May 7, 2020 by Oleg

We’re now approaching two months into an almost complete lock-down of the United States, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As our nation and the rest of the world are looking to gradually resume normalcy, the state of professional sports is not looking good for the rest of 2020. While NFL is still planning to kick off the 2020-2021 season in the fall, both NBA and NHL likely won’t start their regular seasons until the very end of the year – and that’s the best case scenario. However MMA followers might have it better than the fans of more traditional ball-and-stick team sports: there are only 3 people who have to be in the combat arena at any given time, which makes it far more reasonable to practice some semblance of social distancing. UFC president Dana White has been raring at the bit to bring back violent action in the Octagon. And while UFC 249 had to be postponed from the originally scheduled date of April 18th, it looks like things have finally fallen into place – though we won’t be seeing the long awaited lightweight title bout between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov just yet, we are going to see some actual MMA fights this Saturday! (Fingers crossed).

Of course in the big scheme of things, lack of professional sports is a comparatively minor problem during a pandemic. Aside from the obvious worrying about infection and illness, a huge number of people are out of work and have a hard time paying the bills or putting food on the table. And even those of us who are lucky to still have a job – and perhaps even an ability to work remotely from the safety of our homes – are bound to be affected by the uncertainty of the current situation.  The anxiety can build up, leading to depression and other psychological issues. If you are struggling with anxiety or depression, please seek professional help. You might think that you can’t afford it, but the cost of therapy may be less than you realize. And while it’s easy to dismiss sports as meaningless entertainment, for those of us who are used to watching MMA fights every weekend – or basketball games several times a week, the change in routine brings additional free time to fill. This is certainly not helping anyone’s mental state. Luckily, Dana White and UFC are coming to the rescue. Let’s take a look at three top-billed fights from each of the three UFC events scheduled in the next ten days.

UFC 249: Preview and Prediction for Ferguson-Gaethje

Posted on April 30, 2020 by A. J. Riot

For the love of all that is holy, finally, we get some real, live sporting action coming up soon.

On May 9th, UFC 249 is supposed to take place. Who knows if local regulations will still permit it a couple of weeks from now; we could see a regression in the control of this outbreak. That said, I really, really, really, sincerely hope we get to see this event.

It’s not Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov like we all wanted. But according to Dana White, the winner of this fight will get Nurmagomedov. Khabib withdrew in his scheduled tilt against Ferguson because he was ‘stuck in Russia’ due to the coronavirus – yeah, yeah, a likely story. But Dana says we’ll see Khabib fight the winner of the May 9th fight in the fall, ‘100 percent.’

Dana has gone back on his word many-a-times, so I’m just hoping that this is true. Dana White also said, “The Ferguson vs. Gaethje fight is one of the most violent fights you will see.” – White via ESPN. Ok … I disagree. But we’ll see. But hey, man. I like the hype.

Factors to consider when choosing a lottery site

Posted on April 25, 2020 by A. J. Riot

Playing loto is one of the mysterious games that can turn anyone a multimillionaire within a split of a second. These games are common, and they are available at national, international, or even regional levels. Moreover, it’s an easy and alluring game that I don’t think anyone out there would afford to miss or find it challenging to play.

Before SMS and internet technology took the better part of the world, loto games were played on cards: players would buy scratch-off cards and try to match their numbers. In as much as most people think that you can only win by sheer luck, there are some algorithms which can help you win.

However, the credibility of the game depends on the platform that you choose to play on. We are in the 21st century, and internet con is at its best. So, what are some of the factors that you should consider when choosing a lottery site? Well, they include but aren’t limited to the following:

Jackpot size

Many people play loto because of the jackpot. Everyone wants to lay his hands on the millions because a eurojackpot can instantly change your life. However, the size of the jackpot may vary from one lottery site to another. While most of them are in millions, some will be in thousands. A bigger jackpot is a good sign of a reliable lottery. Some lotteries will, however, start with a small jackpot and expand gradually depending on ticket sales performance.

3 Fatal Mistakes That You Must Never Commit While Betting on Combat Sports

Posted on April 25, 2020 by A. J. Riot

Combat sports have a peculiar way of drawing in viewers. Watching the battle of the fierce fighters is not only exhilarating but also an adrenaline-inducing experience. Over time, the high passion turns into a great hobby, and one develops the urge to stake a bet while waiting for the outcome—however, it’s often a meticulous procedure that you need not rush into so quickly. Instead, you ought to take time, learn the fundamentals, know the odds, the betting markets, and, most importantly, avoid making silly mistakes. Are you ready to identify the errors that you ought to avoid? Read on:

Choosing to ignore the athlete’s condition

As a dedicated punter, how well do you know your professional fighters? It would surprise you that most people have minimal or zero clues on fighters they are about to choose. Thus, it ends up costing them a bet and ultimately hating the entertainment activity. You ought to familiarize yourself with the conditioning of each fighter as it affects their speed, output, as well as endurance.

You ought to know about the current physical condition of each competitor, as it will affect their fighting stamina. As you are ready to wager any bet on any website, including Beste online casino, be sure to check the stats critically as well.

Pro Bouts: 2019 vs 2020

Posted on April 22, 2020 by Jason

Pro Bout Counts

April has an asterisk, because it isn’t over yet, so I took the pro bouts for the month (15) and projected the month’s total.

Technically, the more recent a bout is, the more likely it is that we don’t have the results yet, so 2020 is at a bit of a disadvantage.  I figure I have 50% of the results within 30 days, with the other 50% coming later — but I should have about 90% within 60 days.

Either way, the above statement doesn’t make 2020 any less depressing for MMA fans.

Here it is by week #, if interested.

Who Should be Next for Tony Ferguson?

Posted on April 22, 2020 by A. J. Riot

In the modern era of the lightweight division in the UFC, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson have been on a collision course since 2015. However, almost five years later, the two have yet to be in the octagon together at the same time. So, after five failed attempts, who should be next for Ferguson?

The Nurmagomedov Fight Still Makes Logical Sense

Despite years of trying, UFC spectators around the globe have yet to witness the highly-anticipated lightweight fight between the reigning champion and the current number-one contender. At the time of writing, the bout has been booked and canceled on five separate occasions for numerous different reasons, including ligament injuries and issues with weight management. Fundamentally, when feasible, the fight between the undefeated champion and El Cucuy, who holds the record for the most consecutive wins at lightweight, needs to happen, with many now hoping that the sixth attempt will prove to be the one that ultimately sees the two compete in the octagon.

While there are other options available to Ferguson, most notably Justin Gaethje, it perhaps makes the most sense for the California-born athlete to sit tight and wait for Nurmagomedov. The 36-year-old American last suffered a defeat in the octagon back in May 2012 when he lost to Michael Johnson in a unanimous decision. Since then, El Cucuy has beaten some of the organization’s most well-known names in the division, including Anthony Pettis, Edson Barboza, and Rafael Dos Anjos. Moreover, and perhaps most impressively, the former interim champion has finished each of his last three fights.
