ALGUÉM SABE ME DIZER QUAL CRITÉRIO USADO PELA FIGHT MATRIX PARA RANQUEAR OS ATLETAS? POIS NÃO ESTOU ENTENDENDO ALGUMAS COISAS…
He has two wins over debuting fighters and Penn was only 1-0… Evan is ranked around #800.
The type of outcome is factored in and even the judges’ scorecards, but there’s no “controversial flag”.
I disagree about Nick Diaz. He’s one of the few WW’s in the world that has a shot at beating GSP.
Ivica fought his last fight at 170…
It’s strange because I remember checking this rankings just after Okami beat Bradley and it had actually computed, for both. I can’t remember exactly but placed Okami around #40, so it looked right.
I looked the ranks a couple of months after and he had been relegated to his place prior to beating Bradley, #57 or so, for no apparent reason.
Suzuki may be conidered a local fighter but he was ranked as high as #90 in 2016 by FightMatrix
By the way, Okami dropped from #24 to #89 for losing to Fitch (#27 WW) in his debut in the weightclass. Not sure if that’s legit, it may be but coupled with the Bradley thing it just seemed like a dissadjustment on the ranking of this guy.
Thanks for the quick response
Okami gained points from the Bradley win, but he seems to have gotten hit by the semi-annual nationality adjustment after the fight because he spent much of the year in Japan fighting local fighters. Will need to investigate further to see if that is legit.
There is a bug in your software, or seems to be. If so I detected one but it could mean there is more. Is there no human intervention checking this software generated rankings?
Okami’s win over Paul Bradley (#54 WW at the time) didnt computed in the rankings. Okami actually fell some spots after the win. Could someone explain this?
How gets Jesse Taylor so much credit for exhibition bouts?
jcs, could you elaborate on that nationality adjustments thing? It affects TUF house somehow?
Actually looking at Taylor and Okami track in the ranks
Yushin lose to Fitch (#27 WW) by decision in a major org, drop from #24 MW to #75 WW (1/1/16)
JT lose to an unranked welter by first round sub in a minor org, drop from #30 MW to #53 WW (1/1/15)
Both fights were in America so I dont know what might cause such dissadjustment
Will go by the weigh-ins…
Why did Rick Story and Gunnar Nelson bump so many places up in the ladder suddenly a month after their fight?
Stephen Wonderboy Thompson, my son and fighter, is not a Tristar fighter. He has trained there on a number of occasions but is not signed with them!! He fights for
Team Upstate Karate/Pitch Black MMA. Would appreciate it if you would make the correction! Thanks for the rankings by the way!! It’s much appreciated!!
correct
Adam Smith 4-0 [425] is Canadian not American
Why not?
Hi
Ben Askren not won any point in your last fight?
Hendricks is the man who can win the belt, st pierre is boring always in the ground, please knock someone or retire forever
Read the front page.
Why the top 20 have these changes?
Story/Pyle Expired Block.
Probably one of the most restrictive blocks possible.. Pyle was given 540 days to prove he was still above Story and did not do so.
I’d like to see Maia vs Ellenberger for the next title shot after Hendrix. IMO Maia is the biggest threat to GSP at the moment.
I’m very pleased to discover this website. I wanted to thank you for ones time for this particularly fantastic read!! I definitely loved every bit of it and I have you bookmarked to look at new stuff in your web site.
Because Rory now has more points than Lawler.
Nick Diaz’s place is #4 before Maia.
Drew Dober is a 155er btw!
I was wondering if you could update my rankings here’s my record http://www.MixedMartialArts.com/f/94A3C0A6EEC6D2B6/Joshua-Williams/
We treat interim champions the same as regular ones. This is not a guarantee of #1 placement.
Chuck – talk to Sherdog.
your #396 on this page roy babcock last fight was at 155 vs tyrel brown for king of the cage. his next fight is against johnny cottrell at 155 as well
Wow. Crazy that kampann is 2. This is one of those instances in which logical rankings just dont match up with what the computer kicks out; the most intriguing part of these rankings, I think.
My question is with the weight that the championship carries in the rankings, how is he above condit? Does that championship value not carry to the interim title?
Codale Ford ranking
would love to see josh neer fight dan hardy.. hey ufc lets make it happpen. also james sandman irvin vs. forest griffin. come on matchmaker lets get it on….
carlos condit. we over here in canton mi. wish u would take gsp out similiar to the way u handled hardy. man that was awesome to watch. thanks for the way u take care of bus. we love watching your fights……
If there is a record mixup — which are always fun — it’s best to sort that out with Sherdog. They are our main source.
Koscheck wins and goes down a spot, Pierce losses and goes up two spots. Rightfully so Pierce got screwed in that decision any way.
Shields was a strong #2 when Ellenberger trounced him. Sanchez win doesn’t hurt his position either.
i didnt notice this before, but i dont see what has ellenberger ranked so highly. i guess because shields was ranked so highly.
imo, ellenbergers resume isnt as impressive (even with sanchez win) as the other top tenners.
i think hendricks should be 3 right now.
i was also hoping for a sanhez win. guess i wont get what i want.
Oh and im Mike Pierce’s manager and i dont give a FAWK where he is ranked. LOL what is with all the “managers” these days. Shouldn’t yall be on Dana White’s balls trying to get your guys in the UFC.
Will fix this on next update.
Kurt Kinser is actually 5-0. http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/EF2CF92A20148C26/Kurt-Kinser/
Chris Davis is 8-0 with 7 finishes, and won at BXC last month.
Eric Dahlberg is 8-1, with 7 finishes and a win over Douglas Lima, his last fight was 1 year ago.
Food for thought
i am brian cobb manager. brian is not fighting at desert fc on 12/16/2011.
http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Ivica-Truscek-22880
please edit.
Tnx
I asked this in June but didn’t get much response… With the weight that the championship carries in the rankings, how WAS Kampmann above condit? Does that championship value not carry to the interim title? I would think it should.
I would have found it more interesting if Kampmann had defeated Hendricks and thus justified that ranking, but he did not.
I’ve got Cardinal’s last fight at 165 — so this is correct. I actually have some of his older fights at Featherweight. Gavin Neil will be fixed on next update.
no he doesn’t have any kind of shot at ever EVER beating GSP.
Both Brad Cardinal and Gavin Neil are lightweights not welterweights. All of their fights have been at 155.
Codale, you are #648
wowwww. obviously not as good as i thought then.
douglas lima is brazilan
David michauds record at 170 is incorrect. I have tried to get this straightened out but have been unsucessful. David is 4-0 pro. His loss to jeremy hart and his win over Derek Lang were both amatuer fights. His pro debut was against curtis johnson at fury fights in brookings, sd in 2008 and his 2nd win was for fury fights in watertown, sd against cody skidmore
how does Jesse Taylor lose an go from not ranked to #34…? i know he wasnt at welterweight previously but come on… thats comical
Evan Cutts is now 4-0. Two wins on National Television, just beat a tough veteran with almost 40 fights.
These rankings are based on actual accomplishments.
Its been nearly 3 years since Hughes has had a quality win.
where is jake shields? he won like 12 straight fights and he has beaten more official top-30 welterweights than any other welterweight (including GSP) he has beaten like 15 guys in an official top-30 polls, and like 4 top ten guys…..sports illustrated has jake shields and anderson silva as the only guys ranked in two different weight classes
“NR” means he was not ranked in this weight class.
Shinya Aoki for what?
wich ww did he fight to be ranked above someone like koscheck.
serra nr. 6?? very funny.
its just because he had one big win years ago doesn´t mean he is still, an prob. he never really was, a top ww. he also fights once a year and he lost his last fight…
I dont like GSP anymore after seeing him cheat I lost all respect and faith in his abilities as a fighter. And I heard that there’s a case against GSP seince that fight and if they find that he was cheating they’ll suspend his license so i have a question. “If GSP’s fighting license gets suspended or revoked because he cheated does he get taken off the rankings??”. . . But I think there’s so much contrversy surrounding this fight they should fight again. So that there wont be any questions about who’s truly the better fighter.
Sera? really? whatever we’ll see i guess. props to gsp who is a monster. hope he fights Anderson silva at some point. though he will lose.
These rankings are very good for the most part, some of the fighters ranking are a little off here in there but for a computerized system, pretty damn solid rankings i would say.
I’ll get it straightened out. I got the hookup. Fixed on Sherdog and will be on our rankings by next update.
Were all of his pro fights at Welterweight?
I manage Evan Cutts. He is 3-0 at welterweight. His last fight he beat Reagan Penn. Just wondering why he is not in the top 500.
Alves moved ahead of Lytle. Koscheck didn’t move.
With the entrance of Shields, Penn’s return, and Sanchez’s resurgence, WW is about to have some hectic match ups and I can’t wait. As long as Penn and Sanchez don’t fight again.
Fixed
http://www.fightmatrix.com/mma-ranks/welterweight/2/#Karl James Noons
John Alessio is Canadian not American.
sorry $100 k per fight, Fitch is probably the most overpaid fighter in ALL MMA. How can Jon Fitch be making 3 x more per fight than the TRUE #2 WW in world johny Hendricks.
I think Voelker should be ranked higher his 2ko’s of Bowling and ko of Apple make him 5 and 1 in Strikeforce and the only loss was controversial. He is better then Jason High and several others ranked in the low 30’s!
lyman good likely loses to lozano
We usually update once a week, mostly on Sundays.
why isn’t kj noons listed?
He’s a few spots outside the Top 250
After a fight, when should we be expecting the updates to show here?
How is Tyler Stinson at 104 and Leo Pecanha at 103 when Stinson choked out Pechana at Bellator in June??
Pecanha’s last fight was against Stinson in June, not Haidar in May.
Thanks – We grabbed the missing bout, but it won’t affect his rating as it was from 2007.
For some reason, we didn’t have the Stinson/Pecanha fight in our database. We’ll add it and the result will reflect in next week’s rankings.
Stinson will jump about 35-40 spots.
jcs,
Thanks for the timely response.
What about Karo Parisyan his winning in Australia.
I think he should be top 25 fighter.
UFC should get him back for some great fights like, Nate Diaz,Matt Hughs,Paulo Thiago.
If not, fights with Paul Daley, Nik Diaz,
Ben Asksen
Someone help me out here….not that I am a Thiago Alves fan especially, but how is he not ranked number 2 if his only loss is to GSP lately, and he also beat Kos? You guys do a great job….better than I could do, I am sure, and I exclusively go to you guys as a reference, but on occasion, I see a ranking that doesn’t seem to intuitively make sense. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.
Alves hasn’t done enough to hold his ranking since their fight while Kos has been steady. Kos has passed Paulo Thiago as well..
How did Koscheck get ranked #2? Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t he 0-3 against your top 10?
y havent finch and kos faught yet that would be much more entertanining then watching GSP lay on top of the over ranked dan hardy, who beat a no body to win a title shot that he didnt deserve
Who’s getting the next title shot? We must be in agreement with the UFC 🙂
Totally random, but I’m having trouble finding James Wilks. Is he not ranked?
Seichi Ikemoto win his Last Fight in Deep – Cage Impact 2010 in Osaka .
He Now is 19 – 17 – 5
how the hell did you miss the faq section of the site
What exactly is a “Quality Performance”
Just noticed that you have John Hathaway listed as 13-0 and Sherdog has him at 14-0.
Why is Andre Galvao ranked higher than Jason High when Jason beat him?? Kind of weird dont ya think..
So with the missing win, and recent loss… Stinson essentially stayed the same.
If the opponents are of poor quality, its not a quality performance no matter the outcome.
Jake Shields need’s to be in here at the top somewhere.
Sorry to be the one to inform you but GSP is no longer considered the #2 best overall p4p fighter. His legacy will reflect how boring he became after getting KO’d by a 5’4″ lightweight and how he declined as a fan favorite after hooking up with Greg Jackson. GSP is getting ready to retire because he knows his daysa re numbered and that is why he refused to fight Johny Hendricks and told the UFC to make Hendricks fight Ellenberger even though Ellenberger was just KO’s by Kampmann in his last fight where as Hendricks KO”d kampmann shortly after taht fight. Nop Dana doesn’t want GSP to lose. when’s the last time someone like hendricks beat 3 top 10 fighters in one year, 2 of which were by 12 second KO’s. UFC and GSP are going to do whatever they have to get Rory Mcdonald to take over for GSP as champ. GSP is on bhis way out because he is afraid to fight Hendricks and Silva
2 Brits making it to the top ten of a division at the same time? Mma is definitely growing over here, wouldn’t have thought this possible at the beginning of 2009.
thank you guys for having the best ranking system in the business. in your expert opinion who would diaz benefit most from facing next?
how the hell is josh koshcheck ahead of thiago alves
That’s not how the system currently works. When Hendricks beat Sadollah, Sadollah was a 1-0 fighter.
Can we delete the stupid commments, like everyone who posts about ray mercer and the one below mine.
Diaz is now #5.
We adjust points by division now, so even though Diaz had less points at Middle.. he had more points at Welter.
Not all that much.. If it was more definitive than a split, and High didn’t get KOd his next time out, I’d agree with you.
Silva is nasty but when you think about it GSP has a size advantage on most of the welterweights so i really could see him at 185 and not be in any trouble he probably walks around at 190 if not 200
Mike Swick is a good prospect for this and 185 if he keeps whoopin ass

Okami is an unusual case… Have to determine whether his profile should be excluded from the nationality adjustments we do since he entered and exited in relatively quick fashion… plus considering his past UFC background.
Update: I did find an edge case issue… investigating potential alteration.

Yeah I really like Fight Matrix Rankings and they are my go to to compare my rankings to. Then I see stuff like Nate Diaz ranked at #6 at WW just because he fought a former FW who’s now a LW at WW and lost but yet Emil Meek is in the Top 10 and Rory MacDonald is outside of the Top 10. That really messes these Rankings up. Here’s my current persoanl WW Top 10 Rankings
1. Woodley 2. Thompson 3. Maia 4. Lawler 5. MacDonald 6. Condit 7. Masvidal 8. Larkin 9. Cerrone 10 Magny

Thanks,
Chris Davis is 8-0 with 7 finishes, and won at BXC last month.
Eric Dahlberg is 8-1, with 7 finishes and a win over Douglas Lima, his last fight was 1 year ago.
Food for thought

Shields was a strong #2 when Ellenberger trounced him. Sanchez win doesn’t hurt his position either.
i didnt notice this before, but i dont see what has ellenberger ranked so highly. i guess because shields was ranked so highly.
imo, ellenbergers resume isnt as impressive (even with sanchez win) as the other top tenners.

hey jcs! recently marquardt has talked about moving to WW. I had a few questions:
If he were to beat bisping before okami got another fight he would jump okami right?
assuming he moved to ww right now, points wise or ranking wise where would he stand?
could a victory over say josh koscheck catapult him into the top 3 ww based on your ranking methods?

One more thing, I usually take the system for what it’s worth, understanding the margin of error on some of these rankings, but for the life of me, I cannot understand the ranking of Andrews Nakahara.
2-2 in his career with wins over 2 < .500 fighters.
Not only that, his losses haven't exactly been against world beaters. He has losses over Sakuraba and Chonan. Where did he get all those points from? Don Sik Yoon? How is he ahead of the likes of John Howard, Michael Guymon and many others?

stripthesoul: Actually that one is pretty easy.
Askren beat Hornbuckle recently, Hornbuckle is a really solid fighter with a high rating.
Who has Lyman Good beat? Plus, it’s been over a year since he has fought, which hurts his rating.

So with the missing win, and recent loss… Stinson essentially stayed the same.
If the opponents are of poor quality, its not a quality performance no matter the outcome.
What I mean by that is, Magomed Shikshibekov holds a measly 58% Quality performance despite none of his opponents escaping the 1st round? Doesn’t seem right.

Pecanha’s last fight was against Stinson in June, not Haidar in May.

GSP vs Anderson Silva must be done. It’s as good as Pacquiao vs Mayweather’s mega fight.

What about Karo Parisyan his winning in Australia.
I think he should be top 25 fighter.
UFC should get him back for some great fights like, Nate Diaz,Matt Hughs,Paulo Thiago.
If not, fights with Paul Daley, Nik Diaz,

Alves hasn’t done enough to hold his ranking since their fight while Kos has been steady. Kos has passed Paulo Thiago as well..
Thanks.
Who’s getting the next title shot? We must be in agreement with the UFC 🙂
How did Koscheck get ranked #2? Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t he 0-3 against your top 10?
Can we delete the stupid commments, like everyone who posts about ray mercer and the one below mine.
y havent finch and kos faught yet that would be much more entertanining then watching GSP lay on top of the over ranked dan hardy, who beat a no body to win a title shot that he didnt deserve
These rankings are very good for the most part, some of the fighters ranking are a little off here in there but for a computerized system, pretty damn solid rankings i would say.

see i was thinking a fight at middleweight. he needs to take a fight against a wrestler nobody thinks he can beat. thats the only way he is gonna get respect and maybe, though unlikely, a shot at gsp.
if he beat dan henderson people would be shouting for that fight from the roof tops. not that i think he could but i don’t think he would get knocked out either. tough fight for him. hard to get respect now a days outside the ufc.

thank you guys for having the best ranking system in the business. in your expert opinion who would diaz benefit most from facing next?
Diaz is now #5.
We adjust points by division now, so even though Diaz had less points at Middle.. he had more points at Welter.
I’m calling for Nick Diaz to be in the top 5 after that fight. I trust your rankings either way I just think this guy is an animal and he beat someone who had more points than him on your website and he beat them decisively. no one can say he just beats old men now.
i also think a lawler-smith fight is on the horizon cuz they get owned and land lucky shots so they are made for each other. in that context cung le vs melvin manhoef would be a must see. what do you think jcs?

gsp vs alves will be a great fight at ufc 100 but gsp will keep his belt

i think matt hughes will leave UFC so he can win one last strap before he calls it quits. but i definitely dont want to see hughes gsp 4

Silva is nasty but when you think about it GSP has a size advantage on most of the welterweights so i really could see him at 185 and not be in any trouble he probably walks around at 190 if not 200
Mike Swick is a good prospect for this and 185 if he keeps whoopin ass
Fitch lost only to st. pierre and fitch beat alves. alves beat hughes but he was overweight so that to me means fitch should be ranked higher. true neither of them can beat st. pierre but oh well i guess. St. Pierre vs Anderson Silva needs to happen (unless Silva loses to Forrest because then its kinda pointless)

this division getting to be just like the middlewieght nobody can beat rush alves might be the only one and that’s still a long shot sooner or later i think st-pierre will do as anderson silva and move up in weight class for a real fight

Its not only about who you do and don’t lose to, but also about who you beat and don’t.

jon fitch beat alvez
i don’t get it
he didn’t lose to anybody but st. pierre. whatever. anyways sera is gonna get killed by hughes

The points are not division-specific. Aoki is ranked at welterweight because that is where he most recently fought.
Serra’s ranking is primarily due to a big win over GSP and his only loss since that fight being to GSP.

Its been nearly 3 years since Hughes has had a quality win.

Kyle Pimental 6-0 Palace Fighting Championships
George Sotiropoulos 2-0 in UFC (9-2 overall) – should be ahead of Matt Riddle.
John Hathaway 11-0 Record (UFC 1-0) Hasn’t fought any big names yet but nobody can claim a double digit undefeated record at WW besides Hathaway, Bradley and Paulo Thiago.
