Because good info is hard to find. We’ll shift you back on next update.
That’s cool.when is the next update?
Sunday most likely.
Anthony Leone ranked at 145, just dropped to 135lbs and is 8-0. http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=stats.fighterDetail&pid=6893A31F8C8DA55B
Yusup’s last fight was at 45 against Charles Wilson, but his fights before that, which were against Jared McMahan, Jeff Charlebois, and Lloyd Carter were all at 35
All my fights are at 135
Hideo Tokoro 29-23-1 ranked in the top ten????
tomb, eventually everyone’s going to fight everyone else and that shit will sort itself out. Besides, you should have seen what people thought of Japanese fighters at 155 and lower 3-5 years ago. Five years ago they were considered the dominant force in Flyweight through Lightweight. Only 3-4 years ago they were still highly competitive at Lightweight and the dominant force at Flyweight through Featherweight, with Urijah Faber being a bit of an outlier. Now they’re the dominant force at Flyweight and even there they’ve gone from having more or less a monopoly on it to only having four of the top ten. Things will straighten themselves out. Also, at the grass roots level Japan does still produce a fair amount of talent, and they are slowly getting better at weight cutting.
No, Charlebois, and especially Carter were at 135. Trust me, I train with Yusup, he’s a bantamweight. He just occasionally can step up to 45 like his fight with Wilson.
BEEBE, CULLUM, HAVE BOTH FAUGHT WITH IN THE LAST MONTH. CULLUM HAS FAUGHT TWICE THAT I PERSONALLY KNOW OF BOTH VICTORIES. BRETT ROLLER (KOTC) IN NM. AND WICKY (DREAM 7)IN JAPAN
you guys have jose vega at featherweight he is actually a bantamweight. he just took a couple last minute fights at 45 lbs. did you check out his ko of jarrod card at bellator 22?
Got it. Will include on next update.
Chad George has replaced David Smith to fight John Hosman. George should be a good match up for Hosman and give Hosman all he can handle.
Lloyd you are at #146. What weight did you fight Darnell Davis at?
Jason “wild thing” sampson 135 4-0
mundial and pan-am gold medalist
watch out
We are expanding to Top 100 on our next update.
Hi, James Pennington’s record is actually 6.0.0. not 4.0.0. as you have on your site.
I will always reply thoughtfully and comprehensively when someone questions A fighter’s ranking… but when someone complains about the entirety.. all I have to say is, make your own system =).
bowles should have only been dropped one spot, two the most. He lost to faber who was rated above him and he drops 8 spots but guys like vila makovsky fernandes tokoro and banuelos and warren are all in the top 10? not to be rude, but sometimes these rankings really confuse me especially when especially fernandes hasnt beaten anybody of relevance. hansen was not that relevant when they fought. torres jorgensen bowles and johnson should be in the top 10. but tbh i should make my own rankings based on guys who beat worthy oppenents rather than guys who crush cans in japan and even in bellator, though makaovsky could be at 11 the most
For some reason the upcoming Bellator fight between Michael McDonald and Eduardo Dantas is showing up being held in whatever Belgorod Oblast MMA Cup is
James Pennington won via armbar on Saturday and should be 8.1.0.
Erik Perez should be listed as Mexican. He was born and raised there and is technically still a Mexican citizen, even though he trains out of Jackson’s. He is identified as Mexican on Sherdog too.
It really is amazing how the Brazilians have taken over this division. Six out of the top seven bantamweights are Brazilian.
Getting close to time to expand Bantamweight another 50, eh?
We’ve had him at 145… Brazilian info can be tough to track down.
He should break in 135 on next update, probably around #175 or so.
Luis Rafael a BW prospect who is 24-0? pretty sure he has beaten mostly cans but its impressive regardless is he close to cracking the top 250?
A loser is not kept behind a winner for all eternity. In this case, Howell has beaten enough quality opponents to bypass both of those fighters, while those fighters haven’t done a whole lot since.
Otsuka actually fights this weekend.. so maybe he’ll prove his ranking right or wrong.
Hey, Yusup’s last name is spelled “Saadulaev” Also, there was a ? for his country’s flag… He is from Dagistan, Russia but lives in the U.S., so it’s your call I guess.
Fighters can pass other fighters that have beaten them if they have accomplished more since, or the winner has fallen off.
I will take a look at their records to make sure there are no inconsistencies.
Johnny Bedford is not moving up in weight classes. His original opponent fell out so he fought his last opponent at 145. He will remain at 135 lbs.
JOE COCA is a USA fighter. Albuquerque, New Mexio.
Wangnney is No.4 !?!? my god…
only guy i would add to your list i can think of is Ivan Lopez (8-0). now with the WEC and is scheduled to fight Dominick Cruz April 5th.
Chris David has never been finished. I thought that meant he had been beaten badly in one of his decision losses. But after looking into it, he actually has banged every fighter at least one of the rounds. I am interested to see how he will do in the WEC. I could see someone overlooking him. He’s an interesting guy to say the least. I went to his website. He’s been allover and has quite the inquisitive mind. No wonder he can’t be knocked out. A brain like that is must be hard to stop.
So now you have 2 guys that Jose Vega destroyed above him in the rankings. Cody Bell and Danny Timms. Just messin around. But come on
Cody Bell was given credit for several amateur matches, Vega was missing out on a win, and Tims was being credited with an amateur win. These midwest guys are hard to keep track of. The biggest problem was that Vega’s last opponent did not have an accurate record.
Upon next update, Vega will move up to about #65
also Cole Escovedo if he beats Michael McDonald May 8th…
and can Olly Bradstreet get love at Bantam if not Featherweight? lol.
Because Kelleher has more points than Garbrandt.
For better or for worse, Sherdog is our main data source.
Which specific ad are you having problems with?
The “low ranked” Leandro Issa? Isn’t/Wasn’t Issa ranked above Sirwan? Saenz’s win was a split decision as well.
When a consistently much lower ranked fighter wins over a consistently much higher ranked fighter, that winning fighter’s new ranking is volatile.
WHOEVER thought having these ads that constaly refresh was a good idea is an absolute fucking moron. I’ve used this site for years but rarely pop in anymore because this website is usable because of them.
Why is brian kelleher ranked higher than Cody garbrandt. And Dominic mazzota hasn’t been updated lately
Use the Search?
I love your rankings, I’ve followed them since 2007. However, I’m wondering how, statistically Frankie Saenz is ranked below Alcantara.
Obviously, after the first fight Saenz was ranked above him. However, since that fight Alcantara fought once. Defeating the low ranked Leandro Issa. Meanwhile, Saenz fought twice; defeating Sirwan Kakai and losing a tough match to high ranked Uriah Faber.
How does a win against Leandro Issa propel Iuri higher than Saenz whom should have increased the distance between him and Alcantara with his win over Kakai?
There is no way a lost to Top 5 Faber could propel him so low that Alcantara is currently 5 spots ahead of him…could it?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
*a double post since my last message was not proof-read, and my auto-correct had changed the names of the fighters to random words so you had no idea whom I was talking about lol
Udate cody no love garbrandts ranking please. Cant wait to see where he is placed
We included TUF bouts in the ratings computation (at a slightly reduced effect) retroactively.. a few months ago.
Not sure of your point. He beat them both.
In Australia we have Quite a few Bantamweights that deserve to be ranked here. Aden Hawke is 4-1 (4 in a row), Ben Ngyuen, Shantaram Maharaj, all have fought in the last 6 months but are not featured? Are there other qualifing parameters other than actually winning fights in the past year??
Not sure what you meant by: “Not sure of your point. He beat them both.”
We have a fighter search….
It appears we have him at 7-5, not 8-4.. so there is an issue with data. We will fix and see if this resolves the problem.
EDIT: We had him as losing against Sindone, so this definitely impacted his rating.
Highly rated Feather = Higher rated Bantam
I wonder how you rank people. Matt Brown from Wisconsin at 135 isn’t ranked with a 8-4 record. His last 2 wins against guys you have ranked.John Castinada and Dominic Sindone. What’s the deal?
Why is Manny Gamburyan in the top 10? He didn’t beat anybody of note last night in my opinion and according to your rankings.
Gotta research.. broken block (Niinimaki) perhaps.
I’ll fix that Larry. Tell them they need to get on board with the rest of the planet (except for Shooto) and get their weight class names correct.
Hi , great job , but something is wrong with the rank Bantamweight Matias Vasquez Nº 163 in the Rank is Chilean , he isn’t Costa Rican , and id the first chilean in a rank fron this page , please fix this , best regards
ryan benoit should be higher watch this and see what u think
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBqwhbM8zmA&feature=g-all-u
i have jeremy spoon was their “bantamweight” champion beating donald sanchez both guys weighed in 145.
How Come I’m ranked at 14 5lbs now?I weighed in at 137 and Jimmy van horn weighed in at 138.we fought at a catch weight at 138.
yup = He’s finally at the right weight class after all those fights. He also just entered the list of fighters who have fought in the most weight divisions (5), though I may have to delve deeper into that, he may have fought at LHW or WW at some point.
Mike Kyle should be judged at & listed at 205.
I think we;ll have to wait until #300 has 24 or 25 points. That seems to be the criteria.
The way the rankings work is with rare exceptions, people are judged on the last weight class they fought in. Mike Kyle’s last fight was at HW. When he goes back down to LHW, he will be moved to LHW again and his score will be adjusted a bit to account for the weight difference.
Exceptions are granted for situations such as Matt Lindland going up from MW to HW only to accomplish nothing (nor lose any points) when he got submitted by Fedor.
Lindland was not a natural HW by any stretch and weighed in at 206 to just barely make it an official HW match. Kyle, on the other hand, fought 19 fights as a HW before dropping down… and since doing so, has fought another 4 fights at HW in between 5 fights at LHW. Not all of his recent HW fights were late replacement losses to elite HWs in SF either. There is no reason to grant him an exception.
Um, I’m a little confused how Takafumi Otsuka managed to land the #11 spot. I just don’t see it in his resume. Are you sure there wasn’t any error there?
Tokoro’s rating is more established and lost a split. Bowles was coming off a loss to Cruz, year of inactivity, win over relatively poor opposition (Page), good win over Mizugaki, but got KO’d. That’s one quality performance since fall 2009 — over 2 years. The rating you see are primary ratings, there are other metrics we utilize. If you don’t like the site, don’t bother visiting. The only way in which you can reference direct head-to-head results in this system is if the fight was both fighters’ most recent fight, otherwise, it can’t be the major portion of your argument.
cant believe terry acker is still unranked at 135# hes 4-0 and i know for a fact he would smash some guys on this list. edwin williams, sharkbait guitierez, and aaron ely to name a few.
Just wondering why Clay Sheen 5-1 is not listed in the Canadian Bantam Rankings or Ryan Knysh who just took away his KOTC Belt?
What the hell. What about 9-0 Chad robichaux.
Acker is only a few spots outside the list.
Andrew Leone #133 beat kyung ho kang #125 on sunday
Shah Bobonis moved down to 135 Lbs. and has won his last 6 fights. He now has a record of 14-6. He had and impressive KO win over Marcos da Matta, also known as “Parrumpinha” or “Parrumpa”, one of the top jiu-jitsu super featherweights in the 2000’s. This Carlson Gracie black belt would join the American Top Team at a later stage and become one of it’s most prestigious coaches while also leading a successful career in MMA. Most recently Bobonis got another win against veteran and black belt Aaron “Yoda” Williams from the camp of UFC veteran Alan Belcher in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Bobonis has called out some top Bantamweights including Chase Bebee with no luck. He recently sign a contract with XFC US south east largest independent promotion. I think he should be rank as a bantamweight.
Consistent, fair? The ranking system is an abomination at this point.
So let me get this straight, Bowles drops an immense 8 spots, and over 30 points for losing to Faber who’s ranked 3. But Tokoro barely drops losing to Antonio ****ing Banuelos? Who btw skyrockets all the way up to 8 to outrank a guy in Torres who has just crushed him a fight prior. AWESOME.
I think you give to much weight to these japanese fighters . though i know that japan carried mma for years. none of these fighters except for okami i cant think of any that has been able to carry the load against ufc/strikeforce fighters aoki got destroyed by melendez and sexiyama has lost his last two.
In what world should Tyson Nam be considered the #5 bantamweight? Because he beat a clearly unproven Dantas? I cant in any way see this being justified.
A bout in which he was stopped.
@jcs: Eh, fair enough.
@George Lucas: have you looked at Chad Robichaux’s record? Or more specifically the record of his opponents? Robichaux may be 11-1, but his first 9 opponents had a combined 3-6 record at the time they faced him. 7 have never had a win in their career before or after Robichaux. He is an utter can crusher. I’m not surprised that he does not compute to one of the top 150 BWs in the world.
Looking back, Banhuevos literally had 66 points before beating Tokoro, yet Tokoro losing had around the same, possibly even smaller effect of losing to Banhuevos than Bowles did to Faber. Nice.
Much appreciated on the Bantamweight expansion.
terry acker gets another W on his record with a dominant performance over kyle carver at king of the cage last night. that makes him 5-1 and hopefully adds him to the top 250
It’s a combination of a couple of factors, all stemming from the fact that he’s a Japan-only fighter that was fortunate to fight Otsuka when he was ranked highly… so it’s like what we saw with Cobb to the next level.
It’s a known fact that Japanese fighters solely fighting within their own population tend to be 15% overrated on average — those who fight more, may be even higher.. beyond 20% even. We see this when they finally do fight outside the pop. The only problem is that there’s no real good way to maintain this on an ongoing basis. We run that population adjustment once a year, but maybe it needs to be run more frequently. At the start of the year, everything seems kosher.. but it appears as the year comes to an end, it starts to present itself once more.
Looks like the bantamweight division’s top ten got quite a shake-up this week.
I am definitely seconding the motion on expanding the BW’s. With the WEC and Bellator paying a lot of attention to them, as well as the Japanese promotions already doing a lot to highlight them, the BW’s are definitely deep enough to be ranked 150 or more.
Jason Sampson is 6-0 last fought and won at STFC
09/03/2010 Win Erik Perez Split Decision
#37 Flyweight.
http://www.fightmatrix.com/mma-ranks/flyweight/#Chad Robichaux
Trevor Mellen’s most recent 5 fights have been at bantamweight not featherweight
JEROD SPOON IS UNRANKED YET HE BEAT SHANE HOWELL, AND HE IS # 75. ALSO JASON SAMPSON BEAT HOWELL AND IS WAY UNDER HIM.
Thanks. We’ll get that fight in for Sampson for next update.
Sirwan Kakai is a Swede from Sweden.
mix beat gravely recently for the 135 lb king of the cage belt. He should listed as 7-0 and much higher on rankings

Um, any particular reason Chris Holdsworth is #15? Because looking at his record I can’t make heads or tails of it. He’s 6-0. His best win is Chico Camus, who is #76, and Davey Grant, who is #128, and he doesn’t seem to have fought higher than Featherweight (I could be wrong), or fought anyone notable on the indies. Were his Ultimate Fighter house wins counted or something?

The UFC told him to drop down to 135, cause they need more in that division. I say we should see him there soon.

I’ll look at it… He has dropped two divisions really quickly AND with wins. Very unusual situation.
Yeah, how did that happen? It would be tough to convince me that he could beat anyone else in the top 50.

Seems like he’s a Russian (likely Dagestani judging by the name) living in France. Some sites bill him as from Russia, others as France… not sure what the right answer is.
Magomed Biboulatov is he really from France? sounds like he is Russian.

We’re starting to see it in the women now too. Before, it was just prevalent in the men… but the women are starting to pull away.
I thought we had a handle on it, but it seems to be getting even worse. This is definitely a top priority issue for 2013.
“It’s a known fact that Japanese fighters solely fighting within their own population tend to be 15% overrated on average — those who fight more, may be even higher.. beyond 20% even.”
Definitely beyond 20%. We’ve seen the proof many, many times whenever these guys start fighting in the UFC. Not just the Japanese fighters, but the majority of fighters who makes a name for themselves fighting mostly in Japan.

Um, I’m aware of how Fight Matrix ranks but I still can’t for the life of me figure out how Maeda landed so high. None of his recent wins warrant him being anywhere near the top 10. Are you sure this isn’t a mistake?
Also a lot of the BW rankings seem like there was simply some sort of glitch in the system. I normally defend Fight Matrix as by far the best computerized rankings but I’m pretty vexed by the BW rankings here.

I think we;ll have to wait until #300 has 24 or 25 points. That seems to be the criteria.

why jonathan Mackles want to 135 he a top 125 fight
Tokoro’s rating is more established and lost a split. Bowles was coming off a loss to Cruz, year of inactivity, win over relatively poor opposition (Page), good win over Mizugaki, but got KO’d. That’s one quality performance since fall 2009 — over 2 years. The rating you see are primary ratings, there are other metrics we utilize. If you don’t like the site, don’t bother visiting. The only way in which you can reference direct head-to-head results in this system is if the fight was both fighters’ most recent fight, otherwise, it can’t be the major portion of your argument.
Looking back, Banhuevos literally had 66 points before beating Tokoro, yet Tokoro losing had around the same, possibly even smaller effect of losing to Banhuevos than Bowles did to Faber. Nice.
AWESOME.

I see no issue with the current ranking of Bowles, given the positions of Torres, Mizugaki, and his recent performance against Faber. If you want to argue that Banuelos and Tokoro are too high, than that is something entirely different. Warren and Fernandes are comparable situations as they recently moved downward in division. These rankings aren’t division-specific.. fighters take their points with them when they move divisions. If you want to make your own rankings, please feel free — the Internet is large enough for the both of us. BTW, you are aware that software generates these rankings right? The software isn’t perfect, but it’s consistent and fair.
bowles should have only been dropped one spot, two the most.

Just as I start to get the feeling that the divisons are going to sort themselves out and actually look like a ranking that isn’t utterly ridiculous, Antonio Buenuelos manages to sneak past fighters like Torres, Johnson and Jorgensen.
Not to mention, a fighter in Torres who completely embarrased Buenelos and booted his scrub ass out of the UFC. Sad.

When a fighter moves divisions, they take their points with them. When they move down, they get a slight boost. Feather is stronger than Bantam and it is why Bibiano is so highly rated.
my apologies, it just caught me off guard. but may you please answer my questions though on how they are ranked how they currently are? i didnt mean to get all complainish, it just caught me off guard. apologies man.

I will always reply thoughtfully and comprehensively when someone questions A fighter’s ranking… but when someone complains about the entirety.. all I have to say is, make your own system =).

tomb, eventually everyone’s going to fight everyone else and that shit will sort itself out.
I think you give to much weight to these japanese fighters . though i know that japan carried mma for years. none of these fighters except for okami i cant think of any that has been able to carry the load against ufc/strikeforce fighters aoki got destroyed by melendez and sexiyama has lost his last two.

yup = He’s finally at the right weight class after all those fights. He also just entered the list of fighters who have fought in the most weight divisions (5), though I may have to delve deeper into that, he may have fought at LHW or WW at some point.

@jcs: Eh, fair enough.
No issues. He beat Mishima at FW, had three very close fights to pretty decent fighters, and took his points to Bantam, then had a win over Hori.
Um, I’m a little confused how Takafumi Otsuka managed to land the #11 spot. I just don’t see it in his resume. Are you sure there wasn’t any error there?

A loser is not kept behind a winner for all eternity. In this case, Howell has beaten enough quality opponents to bypass both of those fighters, while those fighters haven’t done a whole lot since.
JEROD SPOON IS UNRANKED YET HE BEAT SHANE HOWELL, AND HE IS # 75. ALSO JASON SAMPSON BEAT HOWELL AND IS WAY UNDER HIM.
Mike Kyle should be judged at & listed at 205.

I’m not sure I ever see Fly or Womens getting expanded any more than they already are. Perhaps if we are around years down the road and Flyweight starts a surge in the US, then maybe. I can also see possibly splitting Women’s into divisions.
A near-future Bantam expansion could be in the cards.
You think maybe it might be about time to expand Bantamweight to 150 fighters? And expand the Flyweight and Women’s Open divisions to 75 fighters for that matter?

Anyway, as for Fight Matrix, with the recent proliferation of the Bantamweight division in MMA, perhaps it’s time to add an extra 25 ranked fighters?

Cody Bell was given credit for several amateur matches, Vega was missing out on a win, and Tims was being credited with an amateur win. These midwest guys are hard to keep track of. The biggest problem was that Vega’s last opponent did not have an accurate record.
Upon next update, Vega will move up to about #65
Fighters can pass other fighters that have beaten them if they have accomplished more since, or the winner has fallen off.
I will take a look at their records to make sure there are no inconsistencies.

A brain like that is must be hard to stop.

i had another win nov 8 last year, not on sherdog(?) but on the revolution combat championships page, under the ‘warriors for warriors’ results. not sure if it makes a difference, just saw your updated results and no one has that fight in their records. never really thought i was even getting noticed, let alone put on any fancy ‘world ranking’ list. very cool and thanks… bill kamery
