WHR Heavyweight History: Top 10 All-Time Heavyweights
While WHR’s superiority as a current ranking system is in question, its ability to view the historical scene is probably unparalleled. To demonstrate, I took the Top 10 Heavyweights from the All-Time Rankings and dumped their WHR ratings, fight-by-fight, into a chart.

WHR… and how it really differs from Elo/Glicko
If you’re a frequent visitor, you may have noticed that we’ve added four purely mathematical variants of named rating systems to the ranking pages. Two versions of Elo, Glicko-1 and the latest being WHR.
You’ll see some basic info within our FAQ page and can Google for more. To make a long story super short, Elo is the grandfather of most like systems. It has been around for ages and is super simple. Elo doesn’t care about inactivity or inconsistencies. The process starts from day 1 and moves chronologically throughout time, every competitor starts with a starter rating, which is then modified with each result. Glicko-1 is a very similar system to Elo, except it has the concept of “rating deviation” which allows competitors’ ratings to deviate more or less, given when they fought last. There is also a second version of Glicko, which tosses in a factor called volatility — it is a major complication with extremely limited benefit.
In comes WHR. Again, it is based on Elo, but is setup to take numerous passes throughout history. With each pass, it “learns” from what happened in surrounding events. This makes it an excellent system for reviewing the past and in trying to determine when a competitor was really at their peak. Whether it paints a more accurate ranking picture… who knows?
Using the four systems we have in place, let’s take a look at the following events and the rankings at the end of the story.

Would Reclaiming the Title from Stipe Miocic Cement Daniel Cormier’s Status as the UFC’s Greatest Heavyweight?
The world of heavyweight mixed martial arts is full of action-packed, adrenaline-fueled, one-punch drama. In turn, this unpredictability is what creates a lack of clarity regarding naming the division’s all-time great. So, let’s take a look at whether Daniel Cormier would cement his status as the heavyweight GOAT should he win his trilogy fight with Stipe Miocic.
The Need to Make Adjustments for Their Trilogy Fight at UFC 252
After a perfectly-timed right-hand shot landed on the exit of a clinch in the closing stages of round one during their UFC 226 superfight, Cormier claimed the heavyweight title for the first time with the Las Vegas-based organization. Following the triumph, which saw him become a champion in two different weight classes, Cormier established himself as an all-time great within the 265-pound division, having gone undefeated at heavyweight throughout his career.
However, during the highly-anticipated rematch at UFC 241, Miocic took revenge on the two-time light-heavyweight champion as he secured a fourth-round finish to reclaim the title from his opponent. Because of that, many now believe that their trilogy bout will determine who the greatest heavyweight of all time is. Fundamentally, this is down the fact that, if Cormier can avenge his defeat, his heavyweight record will include 16 victories and one loss.

The 5 Best Fighting Video Games Ever
Boy, have video games changed over the years. Today’s video game technology has made it seem as if the player has been transported into the actual game, in real-time, no less. That makes playing casino games more fun. It’s completely insane. Thankfully, MMA video games have been fortunate enough to take advantage of the improvement of gaming technology and use it to make the best fighting games possible, all for your vicious bloodlust. There are lots of MMA/fighting games out there. MMA video games have been rising on popularity in recent times, another reason you might want to try them out. Here are my five favorite fighting video games in history – in no particular order.
UFC Undisputed 3
It was developed by Yuke’s and published by THQ in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360. This game is hands down the best MMA game till date. It is a sequel to UFC Undisputed 2010 and has been one of the most popular MMA games in recent years. It contains the well-known “Pride Mode.” This mode was added after the game was released, with its own rules and fighters. It also includes the Pride Grand Prix, so that you can have more than one fight in the same night, and move on to the next fight retaining your damage score.

WHR RATING UPDATE (#2)
Notable Info
- After recent changes were made, extensive testing of the w2 value suggests value used in WHR be changed to 42 (from 10). WHR ratings updated.
WHR Rating Update
Notable Info
- It turns out the WHR system that we recently rolled out does not properly handle draws — for every draw, it was adding a win AND loss. Since I lumped close decisions in with draws based on the research I did w/ the Glicko system, this caused a pretty large ratings issue. I started noticing strange patterns of fighters in draws and close decisions who both lost considerable points directly after the fight.
Further research is required to determine if this is a systemic problem or an implementation problem. In the interim, I updated the WHR ratings and tossed out all draws, along with no contests and disqualifications. Before, we were also treating split & majority decisions as draws in the WHR ratings, but we will now treat those as wins (for now). Furthermore, I increased the accuracy as the ratings now run until the convergence is below 0.00001 (vs. 1.0). Technically, this paints a more “accurate” picture.

A Look Back on Our Favourite Weigh-In Antics
The build-up to a big fight is made even more exciting because of press conferences and media coverage of both camps. But the pinnacle of the anticipation is felt at the weigh-in when both fighters come toe to toe with each other. After weighing in, the two fighters are presented into each other. This serves as a way to stare into each other’s eyes and intimidate each other. Most times it is amicable while other times it gets a little heated. Let’s take a look back at the most entertaining weigh-ins.
Why Is There a Stare Down After a Weigh-In?
Most of the time, the staredown is all part of the production as a way to get people interested in the fight. Sometimes there is genuine hatred and animosity between the fighters, which makes the stare down a real affair. Other times, the staredown is exacerbated to make the fight more interesting and increase ticket sales or people purchasing the bout at home. The origins of these antics go back decades. Lots of fans point to Muhammed Ali’s teasing and hostility towards his opponent (which was often just an act and part of his tactics).
