Virna Jandiroba won her last fight against Ericka Almeida, an 7-3 UFC vet, in one of the greatest promotions from Brazil, and hasn’t earn even 1 point. Can you explain what happened??

  2. John Short August 19, 2018 at 11:09 pm Reply

Big fan of Fight Matrix Rankings but these WSW Rankings seem way out of wack here. Hill and Souza at #3 and 4 seem a bit too high especially when I see Tecia Torres way down at #20 after her only loss was to Rose Namajunas, a fight that could have easily been scored for Torres. It’s hard to believe that Casey is above Torres too.

Damn, Grasso dropped 12 points after loosing to Herrig

  4. jason August 19, 2018 at 11:09 pm Reply

Gadelha’s drop was a bug. Fixed shortly.

  5. oleg August 19, 2018 at 11:09 pm Reply

After her release from UFC, Hill beat a high ranked opponent in Invicta, hence her current ranking.

Gadelhalha’s drop in this release is unusual, worth looking into what caused this.

  6. Wanderson Ramos August 19, 2018 at 11:09 pm Reply

Why Virna Jandiroba didn’t score with her last fight? When she was 9-0 she had 46 points, now she’s 10-0 and still 46 points. Is that a bug??

To look forward too: Tiffany Van Soest wants to fight straw MMA she is a great Lion Fight Muay Thai fighter by the end of 2016 she will be on this list I am betting. Bet the long game… I have yet to see Jemyma Betrian “The Golden Girl” fight MMA she was 35-2-1 in Kick-Boxing, and now 2-0 in MMA, the kickboxers are doing well, except for Justine Kish who is in the UFC but is plagued with injuries and losing weight problems.

Why are the Women kickboxers doing better than the women BJJ fighters or is it just me?

  10. B Rad August 19, 2018 at 7:47 pm Reply

So far these rankings still look a little off and have been very volatile. We really need to see these fighters compete more often because it’s really hard to establish a more grounded order with so few data points no matter how good an algorithm you have.

I thought Aguilar’s claim to fame was beating Fujii?

Aguilar has likely gotten fortunate more than once on the cards… sadly the system can’t see that.

  13. mike ripple August 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm Reply

This shit with aguilar being number one has to be reevaluated soon. Hell, Angela Magana beat her clean once and was verbally signalling the ref on the second go round that was misconstrued as a verbal abdication by Magana. That happened a while ago and so did the Aguilar/Esparza decision. Carla has evolved by lightyears and Aguilar has not. She needs to come and fight Esparza or go to the back of the line. Don’t be afraid homie!! Aguilar is not by any stretch the best strawweight!!!

  14. David Street August 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm Reply

Jessica Aguilar’s claim to fame was that she had beat Carla Esparza. Now that Joanna Jędrzejczyk is the champion. If you still have Jessica as #1 after this than we will all give up on you.

Jessica Aguilar is welcome to try to beat Jędrzejczyk but I do not see it happening.

  15. jason August 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm Reply

Has Esparza had a fight in the last 450 days? TUF doesn’t count because it hasn’t broadcast one of her fights yet.

  16. mike ripple August 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm Reply

Get Randa Markos a fight, Sean Shelby. The fans love her and want to see her in the Octagon. She and Thug Rose were my favorites on TUF 20!!

  17. David Street August 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm Reply

Jessica Rakoczy and Valérie Létourneau, both move to strawweight? Randa Markos often is not reconized as Canadain as often given the flag of Iran by her name, but now it will be an issue on who is the best Canadian at strawweight.

  18. Aaron August 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm Reply

With TUF 20 starting, and some of the fighters not ranked in the top 25, could you make a post with all their ranks each week, like you used to do with the TUF updates? I would be interested to see how close some of the non-ranked fighters are to the top-25.

  23. Chromium August 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm Reply

JCS, I’m currently writing 4-Part TUF 20 preview for WomensMMA.com, in collaboration with between 1 and 3 other writers (depending on who submits stuff).

Could I ask as a personal favor if you could go ahead with expanding the SW division to 25 fighters now? I would be much obliged, and I’ll link every article to your rankings.

Seems like expanding the thing to do in honor of the UFC’s divisional launch anyway, seeing as the first UFC Strawweight match is actually happening on Wednesday. The division also has reached the informal criteria for expansion where the lowest ranked fighters have 25 points.

Rose Namajunas ranked at #7 seems slightly too low IMO. She’s fighting Torres next for the #1 contender spot but more importantly she’s ranked below Kowalkiewicz. Not sure how, Kowalkiewicz is Top 10 but a win over Randa Markos doesn’t warrant her to be ranked that high. And although Livia Souza is very good, I think her at #3 is slightly too high as well.

Overall I love your rankings and they hold more weight than any other rankings out there!

now we have DeAnna Bennett (6-0) vs Lynn Alvarez (6-3)in a strawweight battle, What happened DeAnna Bennett was expected to move to Bantam not Straw? She was expected to be the next big thing in Bantam. All this movement to straw… will the strawweight division ever settle down so we can get a clear read? Lyn Alvarez is no longer even on your top 30, how are you gonna rate DeAnna if she wins?

Jessica Rakoczy and Valérie Létourneau, both move to strawweight? Randa Markos often is not reconized as Canadain as often given the flag of Iran by her name, but now it will be an issue on who is the best Canadian at strawweight.

In a perfect world, the TUF winner would face Aguilar.

I expect that a lot of the girls currently on TUF will keep climbing the rankings… I would be surprised if the overwhelming majority of the Top 10 in this division will not be in UFC by the time TUF is over.

very interesting ranking… so about 20 of the best strawweights wont be in the ufc, when they debut the belt.

Has Esparza had a fight in the last 450 days? TUF doesn’t count because it hasn’t broadcast one of her fights yet.

With TUF 20 starting, and some of the fighters not ranked in the top 25, could you make a post with all their ranks each week, like you used to do with the TUF updates? I would be interested to see how close some of the non-ranked fighters are to the top-25.

  92. jason August 30, 2014 at 12:43 pm Reply

They will count, but at a slightly reduced amount… basically 75% of normal.

  93. Brandon August 30, 2014 at 11:50 am Reply

Will results from TUF 20 be used for rankings? Not sure if with it being a title tourney if these fights will have official or exhibition status.

THANK YOU for counting Inoue’s win over Tomimatsu. Turning Inoue’s armbar win over Tomimatsu into a “loss” for missing weight (by 0.5 kg) was some of the biggest bullshit I’ve ever seen from a Japanese promotion and that’s saying A LOT.

Before asking where a specific fighter is ranked or why they aren't ranked:

- We update the rankings once per week, usually on Sunday or Monday.

- Fighters who have not fought in 450 days or more ARE NOT RANKED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

- Use the "Fighter Search" option in the upper-right of the page. The fighter may be ranked in a different division.

- Most of the divisions have multiple pages beyond this one. See the clickable ranges above and below the ranking table.
