What Time Does the UFC Main Event Start? 2026 Data From 18 Cards

Posted on October 28, 2026 by A. J. Riot

This is the UFC main event time measured by the clock, not by listings. Across 18 UFC events in 2026, the main event’s opening bell came a median 2 hours 36 minutes after the scheduled main card start. On numbered cards (the bigger events like UFC 330) the median was 2 h 39 min, about 11:40 PM ET from a 9 PM ET start. Fight Nights ran 2 h 31 min, about 10:30 PM ET from 8 PM ET.

I have been fooled by listings before. Before UFC 324, Yahoo and DAZN put the main event walkouts, the fighters’ walk from the locker room to the cage, at 11:15-11:30 PM ET. Paddy Pimblett walked out at 11:46 PM ET. It is the one listing I could check against the clock.

Two things set the length of the wait. One is the number of bouts before the main event; the bigger one is how long they last, since a fight that goes to the judges uses every round. Before a card I check the upcoming fight card on BetFury, which shows the bout order along with Round Totals and Method of Victory prices for each fight. A fight priced to go the distance is a likely decision, so a card full of them tends to run long.

UFC main event time across 18 cards in 2026

To measure the UFC main event time, I used 18 UFC events in 2026, held between Jan 24 and Oct 24, where the main event start could be pinned down. Eight came from direct timestamps and ten from round-by-round live-blog entries, which trail the action by 0-4 minutes and are good to about 5 minutes. Schedules come from ufc.com and Paramount+, bout lengths from Wikipedia.

Here is every event. The gap runs from the scheduled main card start to the opening bell.

Event Date Main card (ET) Main event start (ET) Gap Bouts before Decisions before
UFC 324: Gaethje vs. Pimblett Jan 24 9:00 PM ~11:58 PM 2h 58m 4 3
UFC 325: Volkanovski vs. Lopes 2 Jan 31 9:00 PM ~11:26 PM 2h 26m 4 1

UFC 329: McGregor vs. Holloway 2 Jul 11 9:00 PM ~11:39 PM 2h 39m 4 1
FN: Du Plessis vs. Usman Jul 18 8:00 PM ~10:30 PM * 2h 30m 4 2
FN: Gamrot vs. Salkilld Aug 8 8:00 PM ~10:20 PM * 2h 20m 4 2
UFC 330: Makhachev vs. Machado Garry Aug 15 9:00 PM ~11:39 PM * 2h 39m 4 1
UFC 331: Van vs. Pantoja 2 Sep 19 9:00 PM ~11:28 PM * 2h 28m 4 1
UFC 332: Silva vs. Wang Oct 3 8:00 PM ~10:12 PM * 2h 12m 4 1
FN: Buckley vs. Malott Oct 17 8:00 PM ~10:20 PM * 2h 20m 5 1
UFC 333: Volkanovski vs. Evloev Oct 24 2:00 PM ~4:25 PM * 2h 25m 4 2

FN is a UFC Fight Night, and * marks a start time worked out from live-blog timestamps, accurate to about 5 minutes.

The mean gap, 2 h 37 min, sits next to the median, so slow nights are not skewing it. The range runs from 1 h 59 min at Fight Night: Strickland vs. Hernandez in Houston to 3 h 14 min at UFC 328 in Newark. I left out the White House card, where weather pushed the main event to about 12:40 AM ET on Jun 15.

Numbered events vs Fight Nights: where the clock lands

The 10 numbered cards had a median gap of 2 h 39 min, with four bouts before the main event every time. The 8 Fight Nights came in at 2 h 31 min with four or five bouts ahead. Fewer bouts, longer wait. Divide each gap by its bouts and you get about 40 minutes per earlier bout on numbered cards and about 33 on Fight Nights.

That gives a napkin rule for numbered cards. Four bouts at about 40 minutes is about 2 h 40 min, which after a 9 PM ET start gives roughly 11:40 PM ET. Fight Nights are looser: four or five bouts at about 33 minutes gives about 2 h 12 min to 2 h 45 min, a range around the 10:30 PM ET median.

Why guide start times can run early

At UFC 324, Pimblett walked out at 11:46 PM ET and Gaethje at 11:50 PM ET. The fight began about 11:58 PM ET, so walkouts and introductions alone took about 12 minutes. UFC 327 got underway at 11:49 PM ET. UFC 329, which sat right on the numbered-card median, had Holloway entering at 11:32 PM ET.

The co-main event is the second-biggest fight, the one right before the main event. In the 5 events where both were logged, the gap from the co-main result to the main event’s opening bell ran about 3-27 minutes, with a median of about 8. Big numbered cards sat at the long end.

How long is a UFC main card, and where the time goes

A UFC main card spends most of its time not fighting. Before the main event, the median card had 41 minutes of fighting against 121 minutes of everything else, from walkouts to ad breaks. So about three quarters of that time was not fighting. Both are medians for the stretch before the main event.

In 2026, 18 events had 5 main card bouts, 18 had 6, and the White House card had 7. Across all 37 events so far, 40% of the 205 main card bouts went to a decision, as did 14 of 37 main events.

Decisions push the main event later: every round gets fought, then the scorecards are read. The table shows the average gap by how many earlier bouts went to the judges:

Decisions before the main event Events Average gap
0 1 2 h 32 min
1 6 2 h 27 min
2 8 2 h 36 min
3 3 2 h 59 min

These samples are small, so trust the jump at three decisions more than the exact minutes. Across the 18 events, more fighting minutes went with a later main event, at a correlation (how closely two numbers move together, on a scale up to 1) of 0.69. On average, each extra minute of fighting pushed the main event about a minute later.

UFC main event time in Canada, coast to coast

The UFC main event time in Canada depends on which of six time zones you watch from. Here is the typical main event start on a numbered card (11:40 PM ET) and on a Fight Night (10:30 PM ET):

City (time zone) Numbered card Fight Night
Vancouver (PT) 8:40 PM 7:30 PM
Calgary/Edmonton (MT) 9:40 PM 8:30 PM
Winnipeg (CT) 10:40 PM 9:30 PM
Toronto/Montreal (ET) 11:40 PM 10:30 PM
Halifax (AT) 12:40 AM 11:30 PM
St. John’s (NT) 1:10 AM 12:00 AM

Friends of mine in Vancouver get the main event around dinner time. In Edmonton on Oct 17 the main card started at 8 PM ET and the main event about 10:20 PM ET, or 8:20 PM local. A crowd of 16,903 filled Rogers Place. Winnipeg’s card on Apr 18 also had an 8 PM ET main card, but its main event start is not in my sample.

In the US the UFC moved to Paramount+ this year under a seven-year, $7.7 billion deal, with no pay-per-view. In Canada, Sportsnet and TVA Sports hold exclusive rights, and numbered events are still sold as pay-per-view on Sportsnet+, where UFC 324 cost $69.99 (Canadian).

Overseas cards move the main event earlier

UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi had a 2 PM ET main card and a main event at about 4:25 PM ET. The Perth Fight Night went from a 7 AM ET main card to a main event at about 9:46 AM ET, and London’s main event started at 6:52 PM ET. For a Canadian viewer that means an afternoon main event from Abu Dhabi, an early evening one from London and a breakfast one from Australia.

How to estimate the main event start for any card

These steps work for any UFC card.

  1. Take the scheduled main card start in your own time zone.
  2. Count the bouts before the main event.
  3. Multiply by about 40 minutes per bout on numbered cards, or about 33 on Fight Nights.
  4. Add time if the earlier fights look like decisions; three decisions pushed the average gap to 2 h 59 min.
  5. When the co-main ends, expect the main event in about 3-27 minutes, median about 8, longer on big numbered cards.
  6. For the last hour, follow live coverage, not the listings.

Some fans fill the long gaps between bouts with other games online. If that is you, start with a license you can look up, then see how deposits and withdrawals work before you put money in. This guide to choosing an online casino goes through it, reviews included.

Anyone betting live on the headliner gets a quiet spell after the co-main to think. Betting loses money on average, so only stake money you can afford to lose. Whether online betting is legal where you live depends on the province.

The next test: UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden

UFC 334, Gane vs. Hokit at Madison Square Garden on Nov 14, has a 9 PM ET main card. I have not checked its bout order yet. All 10 numbered cards in this sample had four bouts before the main event. If UFC 334 follows that pattern, the rule puts the opening bell at about 11:40 PM ET. The judges could change that. On cards with three earlier decisions the average gap was 2 h 59 min, which would put Gane and Hokit in the cage just before midnight ET.
