Very acute points. Thanks for the information. We are pursuing ranked opponents as we speak but noone really wants to step up and fight Dustin. We are waiting to hear back from Jeremy Luchau to see if Dustin will be on the next Tachi card again. He still has 2 more bouts with them so…..
We have Ortiz at #66. It’s not a world of difference.
Although commendable (that Ortiz made it three rounds), he still lost 30-27 x3 to McCall. His win before that was against Matt Horning, a below .500 guy who has lost NINE straight fights. Three of Ortiz’s wins came against debuting fighters, with another coming at 0-1.
Maybe we’re missing some data from Ortiz’s opponents (thus hurting his rating). It happens. I’ll check it out.
Food for thought. Flick has never lost and his average opponents’ record coming into the fights is about 5-4 — very impressive for an American Flyweight that is 3-0. Dustin Ortiz’s average opponents’ record (not counting McCall, as that was a dominant loss) has been 4-4 (largely in thanks to Horning’s journeyman ledger). Still, Flick’s opposition is better, and let’s not forget Ortiz has also fought the same guy twice (Lucas Thomas).
Furthermore, we track a stat called quality performances.. it’s based on the fighter’s outcome (win, lose, draw, etc) and the opposition quality relative to the fighter’s pre-fight rating. Both Ortiz and Flick have 3.
Jimmy Flick’s wins are over a 4-5 guy and 2 wins are over the same 5-5 guy but Ortiz’s wins are of “poor quality”? I don’t understand. Ortiz has beaten everyone put in front of him except McCall who is ranked #2 in the world and he went the distance with McCall while Montague couldn’t even do that. A lot of the guys on your list won’t fight Ortiz just fyi. I know, we have tried to fight ranked guys. Normally you guys do a great job but you dropped the ball on this particular fighter. Ortiz belongs in the top 25 in the world.
[...] [#11 FLW] John Dodson [...]
His wins are of poor quality.
How is Dustin Ortiz not ranked? He is a 7-1 SF veteran whose only loss is a decision to the guy ranked #2 in the world.
Omari, we only count pro fights. As far as I can tell, Nate’s pro record is well below a 50% win pct. If you can provide a complete record, I welcome you to do so in our forum.
He is also a three belt title holder in the midwest. Very good up and comer
There is a 125er out of Des moines, IA named Nate “Mighty Mouse” Williams who should be considered for ranking. He is a college wrestler with a 15-10 overall record (9-3) at 125. He has fought very good 135ers such as Chase Beebe.
Will be in our next update.
