I believe the only way to solve the problem is to not allow fights to take place if both fighters don’t make weight. That would force promoters and matchmakers to hire fighters that make weight. If you knew a fighter was using PEDs before a fight you wouldn’t allow the fight to happen because he would have an unfair advantage even if he agreed to lose %20 percent. Maybe that is a little drastic of an example. I like your idea of a unified rule. My fighters have never missed weight but have been asked many times to take the fight when their opponent misses and we have. We now sign our contracts stating we will not fight if the fighter misses weight. That makes it harder to gets fights but I’m not giving anyone a 20 yard start in a 100 yard dash. Thanks for letting me vent.

    • oleg says:

I understand the frustration with fighters missing weight, but having the fight go on with a pre-determined outcome of NC is absurd. The 20% penalty may be an insufficient deterrent, but it’s far better IMO than having the fight take place but the outcome not count regardless of what actually happens in the ring/cage.

Some alternatives: pay the fighter who made weight show & win money, pay the other fighter nothing, and cancel the fight completely. Or have promoters not re-book fighters or terminate their contract for missing weight. This of course is up to the promoter. The sport needs to have a unified set of rules. If some promotions decide to arbitrarily institute ad-hoc nonsensical rules like “NC if a fighter misses weight”, we can just as arbitrarily ignore them.

    • Carl says:

My interest (agenda) is that I’m tired of pro fighters signing contracts for a certain weight division, not honoring it, gets a chicken shit penalty of %20 fine and has an unfair advantage. And the lighter the weight division, the bigger advantage. We fought 3 times in Japan and they don’t put up fighters not making weight. And the fight we are talking about did happen in Japan. It didn’t happen anywhere else. So my point is that we should not reward guys if they can’t make weight. And please don’t say “you don’t have to fight the guy” the promoters put so much pressure and you trained for 6 weeks its hard to not fight.A loss is devastating. Weight cutting is a big issue. Flyweight seems to have the most problems and deaths. Sorry if I’ve complained to the wrong person

    • jcs says:

If the fight happened in any other country, it would not be a no contest. The fight happened, a result happened.. and that’s what we take into account. I’m not sure what your interest is, but in my opinion, calling it a NC is total bullshit. I don’t see how anyone could truly feel otherwise, regardless of what Sherdog reports. I could go change the Fight Finder result if I wanted to (I have Sherdog database access)… so I wouldn’t consider them gospel.

    • Carl Sklavos says:

The actual result is a no-contest. Sherdog reports it as a No-contest. It`s your website so you get to make the rules.I disagree with your decision. It`s not yours to make. That`s my opinion.
I have total respect and appreciate all the work you do for this site. Peace

    • jcs says:

The fight happened as did the outcome.. so we honor the actual result.

    • Carl Sklavos says:

Yuki Motoya did not lose to Felipe Efrain. It was ruled a No-Contest because Efrain didn`t make weight.

Before asking where a specific fighter is ranked or why they aren't ranked:

    - We update the rankings once per week, usually on Sunday or Monday.

    - Fighters who have not fought in 450 days or more ARE NOT RANKED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

    - Use the "Fighter Search" option in the upper-right of the page. The fighter may be ranked in a different division.

    - Most of the divisions have multiple pages beyond this one. See the clickable ranges above and below the ranking table.

Furthermore, we do not maintain the "next fight" data. This is gathered from Sherdog. Any issues regarding this data should be forwarded to them.
