Who Should be Next for Tony Ferguson?

Posted on April 22, 2020 by A. J. Riot

In the modern era of the lightweight division in the UFC, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson have been on a collision course since 2015. However, almost five years later, the two have yet to be in the octagon together at the same time. So, after five failed attempts, who should be next for Ferguson?

The Nurmagomedov Fight Still Makes Logical Sense

Despite years of trying, UFC spectators around the globe have yet to witness the highly-anticipated lightweight fight between the reigning champion and the current number-one contender. At the time of writing, the bout has been booked and canceled on five separate occasions for numerous different reasons, including ligament injuries and issues with weight management. Fundamentally, when feasible, the fight between the undefeated champion and El Cucuy, who holds the record for the most consecutive wins at lightweight, needs to happen, with many now hoping that the sixth attempt will prove to be the one that ultimately sees the two compete in the octagon.

While there are other options available to Ferguson, most notably Justin Gaethje, it perhaps makes the most sense for the California-born athlete to sit tight and wait for Nurmagomedov. The 36-year-old American last suffered a defeat in the octagon back in May 2012 when he lost to Michael Johnson in a unanimous decision. Since then, El Cucuy has beaten some of the organization’s most well-known names in the division, including Anthony Pettis, Edson Barboza, and Rafael Dos Anjos. Moreover, and perhaps most impressively, the former interim champion has finished each of his last three fights.

What does it take to become a professional MMA fighter?

Posted on March 29, 2020 by A. J. Riot

You may have been an MMA fan for many years.  And like myself, you may be perfectly fine with being just a fan, following your favorite fighters in their conquests from the comfort of your living room couch. But there are some fans who may yearn to strap on a set of gloves, tuck in a mouthpiece, and step into the cage themselves – as a professional MMA fighter. But what does it take to become a pro in this strenuous and often chaotic sport? Read on to find out.

A background in martial arts

MMA stands for ‘Mixed Martial Arts’ – as the name suggests, the sport is a mixture of various martial arts and combat sports. To succeed in MMA, at a minimum you need a base art which specializes in grappling (e.g, wrestling, judo, or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) and another art which specializes in striking (boxing, karate, Muay Thai just to name a few). Of course the most successful pros have years of experience in multiple arts.  For example, Anderson Silva – widely considered as one of the greatest fighters in the short history of the sport – has a background in Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and boxing, along with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. But quality matters more than quantity; once you’ve mastered your striking and grappling base, you can explore other arts and bring in the best elements of each system into your unique fighting style. The arts most fitting for MMA are the ones where participants do live sparring with each other, as merely doing katas does not prepare one to fight a resisting opponent. To date, wrestling and BJJ have been the most successful grappling base arts for MMA, while boxing and Muay Thai are among the top striking bases.

In fact, with the wide availability of the internet and online casinos, gamblers can now place bets on fighters and fights right from the comfort of their own homes. The Basics Of Building An MMA Betting Bankroll

Posted on March 27, 2020 by A. J. Riot

Boxing might be the most established combat sport in the world, but there is no denying that MMA is biting and nipping right at its heels. With UFC just recently signing a major contract with ESPN, the sport is now becoming more and more recognizable.  Besides, the sport is now legal in a number of countries and states where it used to be illegal. Simply put, MMA is one the rise! You combine this with the overall rise of sports betting and it won’t be long before there is real action to be made in betting on the sport. However, before you can do that, you are going to need to build a bankroll.

What Is An MMA Betting Bankroll?

To most people, this probably seems pretty self-explanatory. If that’s not the case then this is okay because you are about to learn. An MMA betting bankroll is pretty much what the name implies: money that you can bet on fights with. It will be the exact total amount of money that you have in a separate account to bet with. Opening an account with one of the major betting websites will allow you to place bets and browse odds. The more money you have in your account, the more you will be able to bet. You’ll either be able to place larger bets on single fights or place several smaller bets on a wide range of fights.

Boxing Betting During a Pandemic

Posted on March 26, 2020 by A. J. Riot

The online boxing betting world is a big industry. Boxing and betting have been intertwined since the very beginning. It’s a sport that brings to mind fistfuls of cash from excited bettors. So what’s a boxing bettor to do during the coronavirus pandemic? With so many cancellations, both new and experienced bettors are taking a step back and reevaluating.

Boxing is also one of the oldest major sports. It has been around for a long time, and it’s going to take more than COVID-19 to give it a KO. Let’s take a look at what you can do while we wait for things to come back online. We will also review where online sports betting has been, and when we can expect to get back in the action

What can you do in the meantime

While most of the sports world is on pause as the world is in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we are figuring out how to make the most of this time. We have a few recommendations so that when boxing comes back online for bets, you’ll be ready to go.

The first thing, if you have not yet, is to read a good online boxing betting guide. This cannot be overstated. Many may think that being a boxing fan prepares you to be a good boxing bettor. Read the guide and see just how much you will learn.

In addition to learning the basics of boxing betting, you should also be researching the different competitors. This is more than asking simply who is the best. You should also be watching for stamina, strength, and style. This type of knowledge will help you win the more complex prop or round bets.

Another thing you can do is to switch to UFC betting. While they have cancelled most events, the highly anticipated UFC 249 is still scheduled to take place on April 18th. They will fight without a live audience, but fight they will!

How was it before

Before the coronavirus, online sports betting was booming. In 2018, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled unconstitutional the monopoly that Nevada had on sports betting in US. This is how legal online sports betting spread across the country. Before everything closed down, online boxing betting was surging.

Legal Sports Report shows that in 2019, sports betting made $1,390,427,457. In eleven different states across the United States this industry raked in over $180 million in taxes.

The business was going up, up, up. Things have stopped on a dime. If you missed out on the first phases of the industry’s growth, you’re not too late. Make the most of this down time to be ready to win all the bets when boxing returns. This has been a whiplash for online boxing bettors and for boxers. To go from such a booming age to a sudden stop has been tough. We miss the excitement.

Also, unlike mainstream ball-and-stick athletes, boxers are usually subcontractors. This means that they do not get paid unless they fight. And they still have to cover all the costs related to their job. So all the training and travel invested in fights, they do not get that back.

What has been cancelled

Most boxing events are either cancelled or postponed. But these fighters can withstand more than most of us. This sport will return.

All PBC events for March and May have been postponed. It is the hope that these will be rescheduled. But with the way things are right now, we cannot be sure when this will happen.

For now, we can only see as far as the end of April. But with US-wide social distancing guidelines in place until then, it is difficult to imagine live audiences the day after, on May 1.

The Japan Boxing Commission has decided to reopen fights starting in mid-May. We can hope that they will not require another postponement. For now, we have to accept a level of uncertainty about when the fights will return. And do everything we can to be ready when the time comes.

Avoid These Boxing Betting Mistakes

Posted on March 20, 2020 by A. J. Riot

Sports betting has always been popular among the masses, but it seems like it has risen to new heights as of late. This could have something to do with all the available online betting sites. It may also have something to do with the fact that more and more states are now recognizing sports betting as a legal activity. Whatever the situation is, there is no denying that sports betting is here to stay. Along with this, there are a number of benefits that one can take advantage of when betting on sports. Not only will it make the event more exciting, but there is always the real potential that you could make money. This is especially true when it comes to boxing. All that being said, if you do want to bet on the sport of boxing, you should without a doubt make sure that you avoid these common rookie mistakes.

The Appeal of Boxing Betting

Posted on March 20, 2020 by A. J. Riot

Boxing betting is enormously popular, particularly when a major fight is coming up. Boxing has a long history of around 5,000 years, and there is also a long history of betting on this sport. It is the longest prevailing sports betting pursuit. It is mostly loved by fans who like full-contact sports such as soccer, rugby, and NFL sports. Sports channels are regularly broadcasting major boxing events through high definition video streams.

Boxing is primarily a martial art

Boxing is primarily a martial art, and a high profile combat sport practiced and enjoyed all over the world. Like in many martial arts, two fighters wage combat with each other in an elevated, roped off square area called a ring. The area of the ring must be at least 16 square feet and can be as big as 24 square feet, depending on the importance of the fight, prerequisite of fighters, and location of the event. It is a noteworthy point that large ring favors fast fighters, while a small one favors the big bulky punchers. The main aim of boxing is to punch the opponent with gloved fists to attain points and win the round. The fight continues for a predetermined number of rounds, or until one of the opponents is unable to sustain the punches and falls undefended, defeated lying in the ground for ten seconds resulting in a knockout.

Boxing betting

There are six primary markets on boxing betting, unlike other sports where there are many markets and options. In online sportsbook websites, you can place your bet on any major event with ease and convenience. From online sport betting websites, you can place a bet on other sports like football, tennis, basketball. Over there, you will find Football League Tables, which gives information about all upcoming football matches. Below are some of the most popular boxing markets.

Outright winner

You simply bet on one of the two fighters who you believe is more likely to win the match. You do not need to predict the rounds of the match or method of victory; all you need is to foretell the winner. This strategy of betting works best when you are certain that a particular fighter will win the match.

Total rounds betting

In a 12 round title match, the standard bet is 9.5; you wager the fight will last for more or less than 9.5 rounds. In this market, you are not predicting the winner; you are simply forecasting the number of rounds the fight will last;-9.5 less than nine rounds, +9.5 more than nine rounds. If you think the opponents are fairly evenly matched and both have the strength and stamina to sustain a long fight, then bet for +9.5.

Winning method

You are placing your bet on a particular fighter to win the match in a specific way. It could be by decision or by knock out.

While choosing a sports betting g website, focus on some factors before making your decision. Choose a reputed, trustworthy, and established online sports wager website to place your bet. Look for reviews and comments of existing bettors to know the pedigree of the website.  Choose a betting website that provides competitive odds, which will enhance your chance of winning.
