Featherweight (138.1-149.9 lbs) fighter ranks
The rankings presented are computerized and provided by the FightMatrix ranking system, which utilizes a comprehensive MMA fight database to provide objective rankings. Please note, that these rankings ONLY contain fighters who have had at least one professional fight some time in the 450 days prior to the ranking date. You can find more information about the fighters here.

How is Brendan Loughnane at 24 with 26-5 when there is
JP Chihiro Suzuki at 6 with 12-4?
I think this is an error. Haggerty hasn’t fought MMA, the Andrade fight was a kickboxing match on a ONE card.
Guida is ranked too high in my opinion. Top 10 but not 2nd in the world
#288 Tyler Davis is a bantomweight not featherweight
Any reason why K-1/Dream isn’t available on the pull-down filter in Featherweights or Bantamweights?
No, I did read it.
It, as I’ve said, is a horribly butchered version of ELO.
The most hilarious part of the whole system is that it complete craps all over consistency, which is huge in both ELO and in the rankings of anyone with an IQ over 90.
Usually consistency is a pretty big deal. It acts as a filter so guys like…oh I don’t know..Robert Peralta and Hiroyuki Takaya aren’t grossly overrated.
I suppose that does make sense! And that would explain why the point totals and featherweight and bantamweight are much lower than other divisions.
Chromium, thanks for the heads up. It’s there now.
FYI, I see Jason Palacios was dropped out of your top 250 in this weight class for inactivity. He last fought as a lightweight and won a match for Carolina Fight Promotions at their card on June 26th. Link to match results: http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=stats.fightCard&eid=54109896-d216-488e-9e8e-06a4f876f1b0#fight_132977
Jimy “The Kid” Hettes move him on up, The Hype is Real!
He’s still marked as Brazil in their database. Is it one of those situations where he was born in Argentina but moved to Brazil early, is a Brazilian citizen, etc?
if omigawa beats mendes, realistically having beaten both takaya and hioki, he should become #2 right jcs?
You have to have confidence. If you don’t think you can win a fight, you will not win it.
Definitely true. Too many guys have rose dramatically in your ranking just because they strung a bunch of wins against mediocre oppsition in the japanese organizations. Jorge Santiago was a perfect example. Also, look at all of these japanese fighters with pretty records and high rankings who come to the USA and get totally outclassed (often by lower ranked fighters).
if you want to complain make your own rankings, and post them, i’ll call them terrible and post them everywhere so everyone else can call them terrible as well.
Added – but the last fight was at 155, so he may or may not enter the 155 rankings.
Of course.. we haven’t updated yet though.
Wow, I think Hioki should be ranked MUCH higher.. especially considering he was robbed vs. Omigawa
Nazareno Malegarie is from agrentina. breen said on his show last week.
Andy Ogle is 8-1-0 not 9-2-0
Andy’s Dad
The funny thing about people who post vitriolic nonsense like that is that they don’t even care about the answer to their question (or attack). They come here to post, all in a huff, mount their porous argument, then leave and never come back. Keyboard warriors are quite predictable, haven’t changed much since I got into MMA back in 2002.
Kurt Holobaugh’s win over matt bessette on 7/11/17 was overturned for illegal use of iv please update.

You should add the Edgar vs Swanson to their “New Fights”.
Edgar was being penalized because his lone win at 145 (Oliveira) was so lowly rated. Oliveira gaining points removed this penalty altogether.
Why Frank Edgar earned a lot of points?

Big McGregor fan, eh?
We missed nothing, assume nothing, and there is no “thinking” involved in our rankings. Maybe read the FAQ one of these days? The rankings are generated by computer software based on official fight outcomes, fights in ANY weight class affects the fighter’s rating and ranking. Conor lost to Diaz, his rating decreased, and he lost his #1 spot.
Now if you want to talk opinions, I think we shouldn’t even be ranking him at featherweight. His last fight was at welterweight, next fight is at welterweight, I would take a wager than he never fights at 145 again.
How do I get Nathan (Nate) Landwehr’s record updated on here? You have him as 5-2. He is currently 8-2.
http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/fighter/Nathan-Landwehr:80B22CA688464A00
Thanks,
Ron
Yes, but Roop was rated pretty low to begin with. I may need to take a look at the draw calculation.. to be honest, I expected him to move more.
Robbed, or not robbed, it doesn’t matter to a computer. BTW – the loss to Omigawa was only a split, as was his win over Inoue. His position is probably fair.
Kenny Foster is 7-1
You guys have Chas Skelly #106 145 at 5-1. His record is 6-0
Chas will be 6-0 on next update.
Skelly won his last fight. makes him 6-0.
I fight at 135band my record is 3~1 can y’all change that plz
Yes, Hansen would be Top 3.
We’ll have that fixed on next update.
Lloyd, I fixed your record and you will be 3-0 at Bantam when we next update.
You fought 145 against Yusup and 135 in your last fight. How about Darnell Davis?
We’ll put him back at 145 upon his next fight..
If Pablo Garza is in top 50 then Dennis Bermudez should definitely be, Ultimate fighter finalist, good fighter
Chas Skelly is a 5-0 145er. He should be ahead of Daniel Pineda #185 whom He beaT last.
Hansen is in the top 10 despite being 0-3 in the weight class.
*facepalm*
Just wanted to let you guys know that my record is wrong on the rankings. It is 7-1.

Skelly is set at 155 and not ranked.
Hi guys you missed this event
http://www.sherdog.com/events/Ringside-MMA-Battle-for-the-Belt-11289
Does Roop get any points for the Draw against Garcia?
– Cruz is at Bantam
– Bradstreet doesnt have enough quality wins, plus I think he may be ranked at 155 now.
– McMahan is at Bantam
– Din Thomas is in the rankings
Richy. Can you please sign up and present your questions in the forum where I can better address them?
Thanks.
Kenny,
We’ll fix it on next update. Thanks for your interest.
Tom, here’s a few names for you…
Yoshiro Maeda, Takeya Mizugaki, Hiroyuki Takaya,
Yoshihiro Akiyama and Michihiro Omigawa were all top ten when they came to Zuffa, and they’ve all flopped.
And let’s not forget Yuki Kondo, Hayato Sakurai and Caol Uno as three more overrated, underachieving japanese fighters.
Actually, Yushin Okami is the only Japanese fighter to ever have much success with Zuffa.
Peralta – Semerzier has been changed to a NC.
Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that you have my record as 8-3 on your stats but I’m actually officially 9-3. There was a fight that had been missing from my record but my management has recently had the events promoter make the correct adjustments to the commission and they have now updated my record officially to 9-3. The adjustment can also be seen on sherdog.com if that helps.
Thanks for your time! Love this ranking system!
cheers,
Will!
Cody Bollinger got a 1st round TKO at Gladiator challenge june 24th 2012 over Gus Lemon
No, Takaya was 0-2 in the WEC. He lost to Leonard Garcia and Cub Swanson. As for the Omigawa fight, it was close and could have went either way.
But you were right about Maeda.
Cody BamBam Bollinger won the Gladiator challenge superfight Championship June 24th Against Gus Lemon
By TKO in the first round
JCS: you know how someone brought to your attention a LW with an 0-15 record, all 1st round stoppages? I stumbled upon someone who could give him competition (I _think_ he’s a Featherweight): http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Denas-Banevicius-6538
Thought you might be interested, in case you were to do a category for fail.
@TholonansGhost
Takaya is 0-1, and to be fair Omigawa’s last fight was a total robbery. Also Maeda was never ranked in the Top 10 on Sherdog and was only ranked in the Top 10 in Fight Matrix after knocking out Charlie Valencia, which was fairly appropriate at the time.
I’ll agree Japanese fighters have historically underperformed in the UFC, that much is obvious.
Yes Fred, this fight will be added in our update next weekend.
Thanks for the kind words and checking us out.
Can you give some examples? Most of those fighters were NOT highly ranked by the time they came over
” Also, look at all of these japanese fighters with pretty records and high rankings who come to the USA and get totally outclassed (often by lower ranked fighters).”
Asian fighters are underrated on this site, not overrated. Hioki should be #2. So there’s going to be a special “asia modifier” where beating an asian opponent garners less points? LOL
Don’t forget all the asian fighters who got ROBBED when they come to the US.
Hi.

I just took a peek at the ELO rankings- totally absurd and impossible to take seriously.
Absolutely. Our rankings are division adjusted, not division specific. Featherweight is a much weaker division than Lightweight.
If I had the time to review every controversial fight reported (not to mention video access), I would definitely consider some kind of small adjustment.
But alas, I have a job, and I can’t get every mid-level fight… so yeah, not gonna happen.
Hansen being top 20 is an absolute joke.
I do like how the system works though, Hansen beats two cans, and he suddenly ranks over guys that are contending for major titles and whatnot.
Meanwhile Sandro goes 17-2, with wins over guys that anyone with a functioning brain can determine are quality, Nick Denis and Kanehara to be specific, and is blow the guy.
The only thing worse than that is the system that automatically ranks a guy above the guy he beat, regardless of any scenarios surrounding it.
That’s not ELO, that’s not even close. That’s a heavily bastardizes and illogical version of ELO.
How websites can include this balderdash in a consensus rating system with guys like Peralta in the top 5 is beyond me. Talk about skewed data.
I personally believe that there is plenty of room for improvement in this site’s rankings (both current and all-time)… That said, I’ve never seen anything better or even as good.
Can I please have my record updated to 15-2 as per Sherdog and Tapology please I fought on Eternal MMA on July 14 and won in the 1st round 1.56 Armbar submission Thankyou.

That’s a good point.. I probably should move he and Nate on the next update. Then again, Conor still has the “title” here…. Makes total sense to move Nate, Conor I’m unsure about.

Aldo is an all-time great that got caught, rebounded and beat Edgar, another all-time great.
Conor went up and lost to Nate Diaz.
Figure it out yet?
ummmmmmm….. I guess you guys missed jose get slept in 13 seconds lol or you assume Jose is a better fight which in that case all i have to say is…Its not just who you guys think is better for the rankings it also about who beat who you fucking retarded mother fuckers

Ranking current fighters in multiple divisions simultaneously is probably never going to happen.
Two fights in a row in a division, almost always puts the fighter in that division.
Khabib is fighting at 160 next, which we consider LW.

Gotta first off give you guys credit on the overall quality of your rankings. I usually use this site first over any other site.
But very strange format I’m noticing especially with the current McGregor/Diaz situation. McGregor the FW Champ is no longer the#1 FW? Diaz is #5 WW and he never beat a true WW. Dave Branch is a 2 Division Champ and becomes unranked in one Division because he successfully defends his Title? I think Ranking fighters in multiple Divisions could solve this issue. But then again it doesn’t better me personally much.
Another example Khabib will fight next at WW but will go back to LW. Now he’ll be ranked at WW after next week. You see my point?

Correct me if I’m wrong but this is split into weight divisions, specific weight divisions, connor is 7-0 in FW and Frankie is 5-1

In a division-specific system, I agree. This isn’t that, though.
When the champ is ranked below the No.1 contender after losing a fight in another division, that’s when you know your ranking system is heavily flawed, fights in WW should have no effect on a division 2 classes below.

Mendes could beat him to a pulp but much more realistic possibility is another split decision that could go either way, don’t you think?
Man… Guida in third is soo stupid! I hope Mendes could beat him like a pulp to yo understand that besides Aldo there are other good fighthers originally in FW.

Calo,
I believe a fighter takes their points with them when they change divisions. And if you’re moving to a lighter division, you get extra points. And if you’re moving to a weaker division and you win, you will move up in the rankings (regardless of who your latest opponent is).
Also, Guida is a serious threat to anyone at featherweight, with the obvious exceptions of Aldo and Edgar.

but you know, Hioki was no. 11 in your ranking before Guida fight. And Carpenter had a split decision with him, some people think Japanese won that matchup, so I thought he will be placed, maybe on 7th or 8th posision, and I thought that when a fighter moves to another division, the most important matter is the first fight on this division, and not points from his first weight class.

People said the same thing about Kawajiri and that argument had more legitimacy. Guida had more points than Hioki prior to the fight, won the fight, Hioki is a quality opponent and Guida moves into a weaker division. This is how he ends up #2.
After Edgar/Aldo, he will drop to #3, and in time he may drop more. Only time will tell.
As I’ve said dozens of times before, our rankings aren’t division-specific, they are division-adjusted.
why the hell Guida is no. 2? Fighters like Jung, Lamas, Swanson, Mendes are way better than him

Guida is ranked too high in my opinion. Top 10 but not 2nd in the world
#288 Tyler Davis is a bantomweight not featherweight
The fight was at 145 pounds.
Thanks Frank – What weight was that fight at?

Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that you have my record as 8-3 on your stats but I’m actually officially 9-3. There was a fight that had been missing from my record but my management has recently had the events promoter make the correct adjustments to the commission and they have now updated my record officially to 9-3. The adjustment can also be seen on sherdog.com if that helps.
Thanks for your time! Love this ranking system!

But you were right about Maeda.
No, Takaya was 0-2 in the WEC. He lost to Leonard Garcia and Cub Swanson. As for the Omigawa fight, it was close and could have went either way.
@TholonansGhost

Asian fighters are underrated on this site, not overrated. Hioki should be #2. So there’s going to be a special “asia modifier” where beating an asian opponent garners less points? LOL
Don’t forget all the asian fighters who got ROBBED when they come to the US.
Can you give some examples? Most of those fighters were NOT highly ranked by the time they came over
” Also, look at all of these japanese fighters with pretty records and high rankings who come to the USA and get totally outclassed (often by lower ranked fighters).”
K-FLO at No. 2 after 1 fight??

Thought you might be interested, in case you were to do a category for fail.

If I had the time to review every controversial fight reported (not to mention video access), I would definitely consider some kind of small adjustment.
But alas, I have a job, and I can’t get every mid-level fight… so yeah, not gonna happen.
Not a good idea to second guess the judges. If you do, the whole thing becomes just as subjective and biased as all the other rankings out there.

I know it goes against the program’s mandate, but I don’t suppose you could do a manual intervention when there’s been a clearcut highway robbery (*coughomigawacough*)? Like make it the statistical equivalent of a NC? Because that decision was pretty clearcut bullshit.

We have statistically confirmed the problem. We are actively working on a fair and consistent solution.

I think a moderate problem that I’m finally getting enough “proof” to see is that simply put, Asia is a weaker scene than the US… and maybe the rest of the world — that last part, I have yet to determine statistically. I think most of us knew that, but in order to factor something like that into the rankings, it must be done fairly.
I’m not sure how to do it, but I think I need to implement some kind of “community size” in the rating system that will not allow overseas fighters to become overrated, because it’s clear that is a potential issue.
I just took a peek at the ELO rankings- totally absurd and impossible to take seriously.
I personally believe that there is plenty of room for improvement in this site’s rankings (both current and all-time)… That said, I’ve never seen anything better or even as good.

ELO also mixes female and male rankings together, (leading to Cris Cyborg being the #15 FW in the World, right between Josh Grispi and Micah Miller), also still ranks Fedor Emelianenko as the #1 Heavyweight in the World (you know, after losing twice?), still ranks Josh Barnett at #3, has Ricco Rodriguez at #8, does not rank Brock Lesnar in the Top 25, and has someone I’ve never even heard of at #18 (Mike Martelle who is 15-2 with wins over no one I’ve ever heard of). Apparently keeping active is one of the top priorities for ELO, no matter who your opponent is. Which of course is why Rashad Evans is the top ranked LHW.
There’s a reason I can’t take ELO rankings seriously. Fight Matrix’s rankings aren’t perfect but at least if they have a strange rating is makes sense on some level and is explainable. I still have no idea what sort of formula ELO used to determine that Sarah Kaufman is the number 22 FW in the world… a weight she’s never fought at.

If you beat someone who is much higher ranked than you, you become much higher ranked. Sometimes in MMA, people prove they deserve to be ranked higher because they beat someone who is considered very good. How else would you have it?
The featherweight division is wide open as it is, with much more stratification of talent needed. Through battles like Takaya vs Peralta, we will see where people truly stand in the growing division.

I’m not sure I see the issues you do.
Sandro holds no wins over the Top 10. He has a recent loss to Hioki, who is at #3.
Takaya holds wins over Fernandes and Hansen. He is above both of them. Peralta’s recent win propelled him over Takaya, by far the best opponent he’s ever beaten.
If you want to complain about something, complain about Hansen being above Bibiano, even thought it was only a split and Hansen has won 2 in a row..
The division is a giant mess at the top.
Furthermore, how Sandro managed to fall so heavily from losing to Hatsu freakin Hioki, who should be easily the number 2 FW in the world, while bum Takaya falls three spots for losing to a complete nobody boggles the mind.
Top 10 that is.
The only thing funny about the whole thing is Takaya absolutely sucked to begin with and was ridiculously overrated for a guy who’s beaten no one but Bibano and has a pathetic win rate.
Peralta’s jump to 4 is laughable.
Big 15 record of 1-0, compared to guys with stellar records like Hominick and Nunes, and those guys aren’t even ranked.

Depends on how you look at it..
We’ve only been running for about 3 years, and we also haven’t been extended to Top 250+s for the entire time. Also, unranked fighters could have taken larger jumps.. and larger jumps could have been say.. 498 to 193.. (less impressive than Peralta’s jump to #4).
But, given the circumstances.. the answer is no. I think this is the 3rd largest jump since we started the site for an already ranked fighter. However, it is by far the largest jump to get into the Top 5.. 10.. 25 and even Top 100 for an already ranked fighter.

I suppose that does make sense! And that would explain why the point totals and featherweight and bantamweight are much lower than other divisions.
Absolutely. Our rankings are division adjusted, not division specific. Featherweight is a much weaker division than Lightweight.
So you’re saying that he gained rank by dropping down a weightclass?
He was a decent Lightweight.. a #40 Lightweight approximately projects to a #12 Featherweight right now…

Robbed, or not robbed, it doesn’t matter to a computer. BTW – the loss to Omigawa was only a split, as was his win over Inoue. His position is probably fair.
Wow, I think Hioki should be ranked MUCH higher.. especially considering he was robbed vs. Omigawa
Added – but the last fight was at 155, so he may or may not enter the 155 rankings.
FYI, I see Jason Palacios was dropped out of your top 250 in this weight class for inactivity. It’s not really about citizenship or birthplace — It’s more about what the fighter considers themselves.
I talked to Breen and will change his nationality.
he trains in brazil of course, not sure on citzenship but if thats what your using for the flags and not where guys were born than that just makes everything a whole lot unaccurate. Not a big deal either way but its nice to have everything correct.
He’s still marked as Brazil in their database. Is it one of those situations where he was born in Argentina but moved to Brazil early, is a Brazilian citizen, etc?

His style just isn’t the best, and since he’s the champuion and is now gonna go up against the best of the best. He can’t afford to do the things he does. You can say the same about Urija Faber, and look what happened to him. He went up against Mike Brown. I can see Manny beating Aldo, but don’t expect it to ahppen.

You can say the same about Urija Faber, and look what happened to him. He went up against Mike Brown. I can see Manny beating Aldo, but don’t expect it to ahppen.
You have to have confidence. If you don’t think you can win a fight, you will not win it.
What I find funny is the extreme confidence that Gamburyan is bringing into the fight with Aldo. Like what Hardy did before his fight with Rush. Guess that he’s just trying to promote his rare chance at winning.

We’ll have that fixed on next update.

Kenny Foster is 7-1
Yes, but Roop was rated pretty low to begin with. I may need to take a look at the draw calculation.. to be honest, I expected him to move more.
Does Roop get any points for the Draw against Garcia?
Chas will be 6-0 on next update.
Lloyd, I fixed your record and you will be 3-0 at Bantam when we next update.
You fought 145 against Yusup and 135 in your last fight. How about Darnell Davis?
I fight at 135band my record is 3~1 can y’all change that plz
You guys have Chas Skelly #106 145 at 5-1. His record is 6-0
Skelly won his last fight. makes him 6-0.
We’ll put him back at 145 upon his next fight..
Chas trains at my gym. He fought at Bellator at 155, andanother catch weight fight at 150. His other fights are at 145. His fight next week is also at 145.

Skelly is set at 155 and not ranked.
Chas Skelly is a 5-0 145er. He should be ahead of Daniel Pineda #185 whom He beaT last.
Yes, Hansen would be Top 3.
jcs if joachim hansen beats bibiano fernandes do you think he will be ranked at least number 3 at featherweight?

I really wish the system you used took into account horrible judging like the debacle of Sengoku’s tournament. Michihiro Omigawa should be deemed a fringe top 15, and certainly not above Marlon Sandro. What a gross call by Sengoku. I urge everyone to watch the fight and honestly say Marlon Sandro did not completely dominate Omigawa.

Richy. Can you please sign up and present your questions in the forum where I can better address them?
Thanks.
question. the dream 8 featherweight grand prix is set at a weight class of 139 and under. most of the participants will be under 139lbs. shouldn’t this make them all bantamweights in your ranking?
i’m mostly interested in where Yoshira Maeda should be. he fought in the WEC at bantam so I would lean toward putting him there.
chase beebe also fought at bantam for the WEC. if joe warren fights in the usa i see him at bantam due to him wrestling at 132lbs. atsushi yamamoto has fought most his career below 139lbs and i’m sure he weighed in lower than that for dream 7. please help with some insight.
you do an amazing job. =)

– Cruz is at Bantam
– Bradstreet doesnt have enough quality wins, plus I think he may be ranked at 155 now.
– McMahan is at Bantam
– Din Thomas is in the rankings
Dominick Cruz (12-1) only loss was to Faber.
Olly Bradstreet (33-9) win over Steve Siler.
Jared McMahan (11-0)
..and i guess Din Thomas and Gamburyan will be added soon.
