How to Read Axel Sola’s Ranking Profile After His UFC Paris Win

Posted on September 10, 2026 by A. J. Riot

Packed MMA arena with a brightly lit octagonal cage awaiting the fighters.

Axel Sola needed 100 seconds to stop Fares Ziam on September 5. The ranking snapshot immediately before the fight told a different story: Ziam was #45 at lightweight with 214 points, while Sola stood at #81 with 133. Neither figure becomes wrong because of what happened next. They simply belong to an earlier date. Commercial UFC coverage may place 1xbet promo code today alongside event material, but a computerized ranking profile is built from completed professional results rather than one upcoming matchup. Sola’s Paris win is a useful example of why the date, rating and recent record need to be read together.

The August 23 ranking belongs to the pre-fight picture

The relevant ranking release appeared on August 23, almost two weeks before UFC Paris.

At that point, Sola occupied #81 in the lightweight division. Ziam was 36 places higher at #45. The difference underneath those positions was 81 rating points: 133 against 214.

Then Sola knocked him out at 1:40 of Round 1.

That does not retroactively turn #81 into a post-fight ranking. Rankings generated from official results update on their own schedule, so the August number remains a snapshot of where Sola stood before the new result entered the record.

Any later movement belongs to the next release, not to September 5 itself.

Rating points reveal more than the rank alone

Sola’s recent history makes the distinction between rank and rating easier to see.

In January 2025 he was #214 at lightweight with 63 points. By April, he had reached #182 with 73. July 2025 put him at #167 and 78 points.

The larger jump came later. By July 2026 he was #107 with 108 points. The August 23 release moved him to #81 with 133.

That progression is more informative than simply saying he had been climbing the rankings.

Metric Sola before UFC Paris What it records
Lightweight rank #81 Position within the division
Rating points 133 Numerical score behind the ranking
Last three years 6-1-1 Recent competitive record
Quality Performance % 92.9% Career bouts classed as quality performances
540 Opponent Metric .708 Recent opposition-strength measure

The columns are related, but none is a substitute for the others. Rank compresses a fighter into one position. The surrounding numbers explain some of what sits underneath it.

Opponent metrics complicate the simple #45 versus #81 comparison

Before UFC Paris, Ziam had the higher ranking and the larger rating total. Other measures leaned toward Sola.

Sola’s Quality Performance figure stood at 92.9%, compared with 69.6% for Ziam. His 540 Opponent Metric was .708, while Ziam’s was .583.

That metric uses a 1,080-day window around relevant bouts, taking in 540 days before and 540 days after. It is designed to say something about the quality of opposition around a fighter’s results rather than simply counting wins.

The recent records add another contrast. Sola was 6-1-1 across the previous three years and carried a 66.7% win-finish rate. Ziam was 4-1 over that broad period, with a 61.1% finish figure.

Their Big League records looked different again: 2-1 for Sola and 8-4 for Ziam.

No single column settles the comparison neatly. That is precisely why a ranking profile contains more than the number beside the fighter’s name.

Recent sequence matters as well. Sola lost a decision in March, submitted Ismael Bonfim with a first-round Brabo choke on July 25, then stopped Ziam six weeks later.

A career total flattens those fights into one record. Their timing keeps them distinct.

Betting prices measured a different pre-fight question

Before the fight, Ziam was priced at -150 and Sola at +125.

Those prices translate to raw implied probabilities of about 60.0% for Ziam and 44.4% for Sola. Together they reach roughly 104.4%, reflecting the bookmaker margin rather than a clean 100% probability split.

The betting market therefore had Ziam favoured, but not by anything resembling the 36-place gap in the rankings.

That is not a contradiction either. A computerized ranking evaluates a broader body of completed MMA results. A betting price applies to one scheduled matchup at a particular moment before the fight.

Sola then supplied the only number that could not exist beforehand: 1:40, the time of the knockout.

Sola’s #81 position and 133 points now belong to a pre-Paris snapshot. His victory over the #45-ranked Ziam belongs to the next part of the record. Reading the two in order keeps the profile useful without guessing where the new result will eventually place him.
