These ranking sets have been generated by a recent version of the software, using recent data and will not match previously published issues of the rankings, especially since a majority of these generated sets are for dates much earlier than the site’s inception.
Rankings will list until the next multiple of 5 (Top 5, 10, 15, etc.) after the last fighter at or above 20 points is found, to a maximum amount (found in the current rankings). At a bare minimum, a fighter needs at least 15 points to be displayed, so in some cases, the next multiple of 5 may not be reached.
Gathering data for the “unknown division lists” are crucial in building these sets, so if you want to help us research, please review these lists and inform us in the forum.
Some of the older divisional lists are very small, or even blank, due to limited fights and/or limited data.
Once deemed as retired or assumed as such (no fights scheduled, no fights in past 900 days from last update or manually marked as retired/deceased/etc), fighters are removed from any ranking pages more recent than their last fight. This is the one major difference between these sets and the current rankings.
Note: Fighter records within these historical rankings represent their records at the date of the rankings.

What happened to Irene Cabello Rivera’s page? it says she has no more rankings now
https://www.fightmatrix.com/fighter-profile/Irene+Cabello+Rivera/93505/
Do you have evidence that she was ever ranked?
You have Alexey Oleinik (the heavyweight UFC fighter)’s name spelled wrong as Alexey Oleynik
On the same note as Rumina, similarly Takaku Fuke is now completely disappearing in 95-96 even though he is very active with many wins and losses.
Please ignore my previous message about Jon Jones- Cormier. I realized this was due to the match being later changed to No contest
Again, Thank you Jason for looking into Rumina issue.
Also noticed 10/2017 Jon Jones record still shows him below Daniel Cormier even though he just beat him. Also looks like his win-loss status was not updated when compared to 7/2017.
Thank you for looking into Rumina issue.
Re: Rumina.. found a bug, still not sure he’ll be ranked in all the sets he’s not in now.. but the output does not match that statement I just referenced.
Re: Rumina, I’d have to look to be sure but probably..
“Rankings will list until the next relatively standard increment (Top 5, 10, 15, etc.) after the last fighter at 20 points is found, to a maximum amount (found in the current rankings). At a bare minimum, a fighter needs at least 15 points to be displayed.”
Pretty sure he was below 20… maybe below 15 for a time. Would need to go back and investigate closer.
Why does Rumina Sato disappear from ranking 4/1999. He had a fight in January 1999 and certainly should not suddenly disappear for no reason while there are other fighters such as Wander Braga who were a lot more inactive than him at the time.
Why does Ken Shamrock disappear in ratings on 4/1994? He was active.
I can’t find this guy in the history

Fighter Alyona Rassohyna http://www.fightmatrix.com/fighter-profile/Alyona+Rassohyna/82427/ have real record 10-2-0 record on sherdog 8-2-0 http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Alyona-Rassohyna-80309
Because he was a bantam at the time. His first fight at flyweight in UFC was in March 2012.
Hi
I am Gunnar’s Nelson father and manager. I would just like to point out that his record is wrong on this page:
http://www.fightmatrix.com/historical-mma-rankings/generated-historical-rankings/?Issue=72&Division=4&Page=3#Gunnar Nelson
It should be 9-0-1. That is 9 wins, 0 losses and 1 draw.
His record is right on Sherdog.
For more info on Gunnar’s record visit his official website on: http://www.nelson.is
Thank you.
Invicta has
Atomweight= 105
Strawweight= 115
flyweight=125
Why is yours different…are you using boxing weights?
Seo Hee Ham wouldn’t have a chance against Penne.
Why is Mighty Mouse ranked in bantam in historical rankings on 01/01/2012
Check the October 2000 rankings for Light Heavyweights.
ya im set at 125lbs ya cause my record is 13-6 not 11-5
Why is Nate Marquardt listed as a Welterweight in 2001 after winning the King of Pancrase at Middleweight.
That weight class limit was 181lbs.
Would love to see fighter Dustin West considered for ranking in the middleweight division.

For a spell, it was something like 175 or 175.7 — somewhere right around 175-176. It wasn’t always 181.. and is now 185. The transition between Welterweight and Middleweight has always been our most problematic as there have been a plethora of bouts taking place between 174 and 178.
I may just hardcode those tweener 2000-2001 bouts to 176, thus making them Middleweight, even though this goes against my usual rule of thumb where if I have both weights, I’ll use those to set the division. However, Pancrase was just weird altogether. You have guys weighing 172 and 174 for title fights at 176. That kind of shit just doesn’t happen anymore.
Fighters who only fought in a given division once then went inactive, are not included in generated historical sets. So McGregor is historically mostly ranked at featherweight.

@oleg Thank you for the reply. Can’t you change it so that at least they’re shown in the last quarterly rankings of that fight? I feel like it would make more sense that way.
Love what you’re having in this site btw, really enjoying browsing through the generated historical rankings.
We’ll take it into consideration – not sure what the effort required would be, but I think it’s a worthwhile enhancement
I’m creating a timeline of the fights of top 15 fighters in the lightweight division (and the changes to the division’s rankings), so that type of change will be beneficial for me at least

I understand. I thought Arona started his career at HW. I guess I should check other weight classes more often. it’s difficult to find a fighter when I don’t know, not only what their ranking was, but which weight class they were ranked in at a specific date. that’s where a date feature would come in handy for the search fighter function.

I’m not sure what you mean.. Arona WAS at 205.. he then fights Fedor at Heavyweight.. and is then ranked at Heavyweight.. along with Fedor who just became relevant.

movement of fighters rankings in the historical rankings seems sometimes to not match their fight history. for example, Ricardo Arona is not ranked on the 2000 October heavyweight rankings, he then loses to Fedor (who isn’t ranked too) on December, and then he appears at #52 on January 2001. there are numerous more examples. am I not understanding how these rankings work?

CroCop didn’t debut in MMA until 2001..
As for the LHWs in 1995… how many fights can you find that took place in or before 1995 between 191 and 210 lbs? 🙂
But thanks for the comments!
Great work, but where is Mirko Cro Cop during the 1995 time period. You might have forgot to input that data. Also, the LHWs aren’t showing up during that time.
BTW, you guys have the best historical data out there. I like your rankings and believe that with a little tweeking, your rankings will become the best out there overall.
I also think it’s a matter of time before you guys get more noticed. MMA is growing.
