Tactical Breakdown of UFC 326: Strengths and Weaknesses of the Fighters

Posted on February 25, 2026 by A. J. Riot

The UFC 326 location and UFC 326 date have been locked in, and people can’t wait to see what the outcome of the match between two of the most decorated fighters in the MMA will be. The first fight between the two, Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira happened in 2015 when the contestants were still finding their feet in the sport. But the situation is different now. They are returning now as established fighters.

For UK supporters who will be staying up into the early hours to watch Max Holloway vs Charles Oliveira, the fight is definitely going to be worth it. Many supporters are already scanning odds and placing wagers across both new and established betting sites on this event and other sports in the UK and beyond. But numbers and wagers aside, the real excitement comes from how these two heavyweight fighters will be locking horns in the ring.

Main Event Tactical Analysis: Holloway vs Oliveira

Charles Oliveira vs Max Holloway looks like a match offering two different approaches of fighters in MMA. The two have their unique ways of winning. While Holloway wants to outwork you, Oliveira wants to finish you. One wins by volume, the other wins by danger. And that’s exactly what makes Oliveira vs Holloway so interesting.

Max Holloway: Relentless Pace and Defensive Discipline

Max Holloway’s identity as a fighter is built on output. He holds the UFC record for most significant strikes landed in history – over 3,600 – and averages an extraordinary 7.24 significant strikes per minute. That’s not just activity: it’s sustained pressure.

Holloway’s game is built around rhythm. He doesn’t explode recklessly. He is the kind of fighter who layers combinations and forces his opponent into a really uncomfortable tempo. He knows how to work body-to-head transitions. In his fight against Calvin Kattar, he landed a record-breaking 445 significant strikes in a single fight. That’s exactly the kind of outcome one can expect from a match where Holloway is allowed to dictate range.

On the defensive side, Holloway is also doing pretty well. He presently has a breakdown defense of 84%, which makes it a tough nut to crack for even experienced grapplers. You will hardly see him panic in scrambles and he doesn’t struggle with disengaging to reset the fight standing.

However, even with all his strength, Holloway definitely still has some weaknesses. At lightweight, he doesn’t possess one-shot stopping power. Instead of detonating damage, he’s the kind of player that easily accumulated it. And being in the ring with someone like Oliveira, that means we will probably be having prolonged exchanges, and of course, prolonged exposure to submission threats.

Charles Oliveira: Opportunistic Chaos and Submission Mastery

If Holloway is steady and predictable, Charles Oliveira is anything but. He is presently one of the most dangerous finishers the UFC has ever seen, with 21 stoppages. He has every tool in his disposal to subdue even the toughest opponent. Think of ground-and-pound, guillotines, back takes, rear-naked chokes – he has it all.

Oliveira averages 2.37 takedowns per 15 minutes, landing them at around 40% accuracy. However, the raw numbers don’t fully explain his grappling. He is an extremely fast fighter. Many of his finishes don’t come from perfect setup. They come from complete chaos, scrambles, wild exchanges, and moments when opponents let down their guide for a half second. That’s the kind of fighter Oliveira is.

However, one major concern about him is in his defense. He gets hits a lot, compared to Holloway. He even sometimes leaves his chin exposed when attacking, raising serious concerns about his defensive discipline. Recent losses, especially against Ilia Topuria have cast doubt in the heart of his supporters, especially when he will be getting into the ring with someone like Holloway.

Holloway vs Oliveira: The Tactical Pivot Points

With an Oliveira neck injury which was recorded during a takedown attempt, the first faceoff between these guys in 2015 came to an early finish. The consequence is that there is not a lot to take from that meeting as we look towards the coming one. This version of Oliveira vs Holloway is about who controls geography.

For Holloway to win, he will have to:

  • Stay in the center
  • Keep the fight standing
  • Avoid long clinches
  • Defend early takedowns
  • Keep the pace high

If he does that, he can slowly wear Oliveira down. Holloway’s cardio has historically been championship-level across five rounds.

For Oliveira, he will need to work on:

  • Closing the distance fast
  • Cutting off the cage
  • Creating scrambles
  • Forcing grappling exchanges
  • Make the fight uncomfortable

He can’t let Holloway get into rhythm. If he does, it could be a long night.

So what’s the UFC 326 prediction like for the main event?

If Holloway can find a formula to manage takedowns early and take the bout beyond Round 2, chances are Oliveira won’t be able to withstand his striking accumulation. If that scenario manifests, it won’t be a surprise to see Max Holloway win via TKO at round 3 or 4.

Other Fights to Watch on the UFC 326 Fight Card

Fans are excited about the headliner, but it is not the only event on the cards. The UFC 326 fight card has other encounters that fans may want to follow keenly.

Reinier de Ridder vs Caio Borralho

Many fans want to see this middleweight bout because of the names taking part in it. The two players also have their unique strengths and weaknesses, making the duel a deceptive one for many fans.

For De Ridder, his games have always been about control. He’s always on the lookout for clinches and ground dominance. But Borralho on the other hand, is a fighter with so much composure. He presently has a takedown defense of 76%. Combine this with his Brazilian jiu-jitsu background, then you have a solid fighter that is difficult to take out in the ring.

So, for the game to tilt in De Ridder’s favor, he will have to secure early control. Otherwise, he will likely be forced into extended striking exchanges, which, of course, will favor Borralho who seems to be more comfortable in such areas.

Gregory Rodrigues vs Brunno Ferreira

The first time these two met, the clash ended quickly in Rodrigues’ favor. Ferreira was knocked out in the first round. For him to win this time, he will need to be smarter, especially in his defense.

Rodrigues is known for his powerful knockout, and that usually comes early in the game. The best chance Ferreira has against such a fighter is to disrupt rhythm and avoid pocket exchanges.

Rob Font vs Raul Rosas Jr.

We can call this experience versus ambition. Rosas Jr. brings energy and aggression while Font brings calm and timing. Rosas pushes pace but can fade if forced into deep waters. Font’s composure and shot selection could become decisive if the fight stretches beyond the opening exchanges.

What Makes UFC 326 So Interesting

Beyond individual bouts, the UFC 326 fight card reveals how passionate fighters can be and what each of them is bringing to the table. The card is full of fighters either rebounding from setbacks or defending reputations. And that usually delivers exciting fights.

Across the whole event, several themes stand out:

  • Fighters trying to prove they still belong
  • Young prospects facing veterans
  • High-pressure styles clashing
  • Cardio being tested
  • Confidence after recent losses

Final Thoughts on UFC 326

Whether you support Holloway, Oliveira, or just love great MMA, UFC 326 delivers. It has history. It has storylines. It has real stakes.

If Holloway wins, he reminds everyone why he’s one of the most reliable fighters in the sport. If Oliveira wins, he proves that danger never fades.

For UK fans, staying up late will be worth it. This isn’t just another event. It’s a night that could reshape several divisions. The UFC 326 date may only be one evening, but its impact could last all year. And that’s what makes it special.
