Paulo Costa Turned Down A Six-Fight Extension With UFC

Posted on December 22, 2022 by A. J. Riot

Why Paulo Costa Turned Down A Six-Fight Extension With UFC?

When Paulo Costa began training in Muay Thai at age 9, he started his career in combat sports. Eventually, he introduced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to his repertoire and began martial arts training at the age of 17.

Early in the 2010s, Costa switched to MMA, and he faced Téo Esteves in his professional debut in 2012 at the MMA Total Combat: Santa Luzia. His combats have been a popular attraction for sports bettors online.

Paulo Costa doesn’t appear to be re-signing with the UFC except if he receives a better offer. The Brazilian fighter, who has an MMA record of 14-2-0, is unquestionably one of the best in the sport. In fact, reputed sports betting sites such as captaingambling.com have always kept their players informed with detailed updates on such News which could impact the outcomes of their betting ventures. Especially, when it involves star players such as Paulo Costa.

Paulo Costa’s Statement Venting his Pay Grievances

The Brazilian has not remained silent regarding his pay grievances. Costa is still under an old contract, so amidst moving up the ranks and emerging as one of his division’s leading candidates and bigger draws, his combat purses have not increased all that much. As a consequence, when his deal ends, he plans to switch to boxing or move up a promotion.

The Brazilian expressed his displeasure with his current “miserable” contract two weeks before admitting that he does not have a deal signed with the UFC.

On 2nd November, Costa wrote, “My miserable contract with the UFC was up in a few short months. A new #boxer is coming to town!”

On 12th February, Costa (14-2) is anticipated to square off against former champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 284, but “Borrachinha” recently claimed that he has not yet signed the bout contract. The Brazilian’s contract calls for one more fight. Sports bettors who decide on their betting ventures usually follow such detailed statistics to take informed decisions.

During a subsequent interview with Ariel Helwani, the former middleweight title challenger for the UFC disclosed that he only has one fight left on his current deal and that he is more inclined to become a free agent following his subsequent fight.

He took to Twitter to say, “Just one fight to get free from UFC contract.”

Costa’s Future Plans and Career Visions

Costa’s UFC career would seem to be coming to an end in Australia until one party is prepared to compromise, given that the UFC only ever offers multi-fight contracts. Saul Almeida, a World Series of Fighting (WSOF) veteran, did present an intriguing alternate solution for “Borrachinha,” though.

After losing by choice to Marvin Vettori and being TKO’d by Israel Adesanya in his previous two fights, the victory ended his losing streak.

That was expected, but what was unexpected was that on Wednesday, Paulo Costa returned to social media to reveal he had declined a contract extension. The Brazilian said that he was offered a six-fight contract but declined it because he is not interested in multi-fight arrangements.

Not only that, but he tweeted earlier that he respectfully refused a multi-deal offer from the UFC. He was unwilling to take part in a multi-fight deal, despite their offer of a 6-fight contract.

Then, in response to his claim that he wasn’t happy with his pay, a fan made fun of him by simply stating that he should get $1 billion for each match. Given that he turned down the offer and indicated that he intends to switch to boxing after his contract with the UFC expires, it will be pretty interesting to see what he does following his fight at UFC 282.
