Boxing and MMA Odds Explained: Everything You Need to Know

Posted on May 11, 2022 by A. J. Riot

Introduction

This site takes great satisfaction in assisting our readers in learning everything there is to know about sports betting. Today, let’s briefly discuss boxing and MMA ( Mixed Martial Arts) odds.

If you’re new to betting, especially in MMA or boxing, you may think the entire procedure is intimidating. You’ll see all kinds of positive and negative data, which could easily turn you off. What exactly do those figures mean?

For example, bookmakers will use -100 for the favorite and +100 for the underdog. It’s perplexing, especially since your instincts tell you those fighters with the additional prefix should be considered favorites.

However, details are not as tough as they appear. We will utilize this post to teach you everything you need to learn about boxing and MMA chances. Let’s see how it goes.

A Basic Overview of Booking Odds

We don’t want to waste your time, so let us get right to the point. The following is a simple overview of booking odds:

Fighter 1: -100 odds

The first combatant is, therefore, the favorite to win the match. The -100 component indicates that if you want to win $100, you must invest $100.

Fighter 2: +100 odds

This second boxer is the underdog. However, identifying him as such is only the start of the process. You should also understand the difference between the net and total sums you could win if you win a lottery ticket. Returning to our previous illustrations, it would appear somewhat like this.

  • The first fighter wins, and you have a winning ticket. The odds were -100, so you had to invest $100 to win $100. It means that you get $200 ($100 that you’ve invested and a clear win of $100).
  • The second fighter wins, and you want to collect the prize. The odds were +300, so you had to invest $100 to win $300. It means that you get $400 ($100 that you’ve invested and a clear win of $300).

This method of odds is called the American odds, the good thing is sites such as odds index offer you different methods of odds, this means you can choose whichever suits you. They employ the plus (+) and minus (-) bookmarking format. It is by far the most popular in the United States. There are several other types of bookmaking formats. But instead of boring you with the details, let’s consider the other 2 you are likely to encounter if you decide to continue betting on boxing or MMA games. They are:

  • fractional odds
  • decimal odds

Decimal Odds

Decimal odds, often known as European odds, continental odds, or digital odds, are another sort of betting odds. They are frequently utilized in Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Because these odds are in decimal form, their name is self-explanatory.

The decimal odds figure shows the total amount of money you will receive (total payout) per one dollar staked (the money you wagered is included in the amount).

There’s an ongoing fight, and the odds for fighter A to win are 2.0, while the odds for fighter B are 3.5. The lower number symbolizes the favorite in decimal odds, while the higher number stands for the underdog. Fighter A is, therefore, the favorite in this match, while fighter B is the underdog.

In this illustration, Mr. Jack will receive $1.5 if he stakes $1 on fighter A ($1 is the initial stake, and $0.5 is the profit). Similarly, if he bets $1 on fighter B, he will win $3.5 ($1 is the initial stake, and $2.5 is the profit).

Fractions Odds

In the United Kingdom, fractional odds are the most popular. They’re also known as British, UK, or traditional odds. 6/2 or 6-2 are examples of fractional odds; they can be written with either a slash (/) or a hyphen (-). “Six-to-two” is how they’re pronounced.

As explained, fractional odds are the amount of money you make for every dollar you gamble. For example, if you gamble $1, fractional odds of 9/6 (or 1.5) represent the profit. If you wager $1 (at 9/6 odds), you will receive a total payout of $2.5, of which 1.5 (9/6) is profit.

Conclusion

Once again, we hope this article has been helpful. This simple explanation should make you make the right choices for boxing and MMA odds. If you choose to pursue boxing or MMA, then you will need to pick up shin guards, MMA shorts, and other accessories for yourself and get ready.
