How Much Money Can You Make With MMA Betting?

Posted on April 25, 2021 by A. J. Riot

Can a person make enough money betting on MMA to quit their day job? Continue reading to know how much money can be made off of MMA betting.

When we look at MMA betting, the rule doesn’t differentiate between the other types of sports betting or betting in general. When thinking about how much money can be made from betting, it can depend on how much money is placed on the bet.

More money put at risk to be lost means more money to be made if won. With sports betting, there are a lot of other things to consider, though. There are things like the event’s frequency, the opposing teams’ odds, and the event’s magnitude.

The different leagues may also be a factor when determining the amount of money to be won through bets. The UFC can make considerably more money than the Jungle fight or World Series of Fighting (WSOF). More people watch the UFC, so it gets more revenue, and it presents a more attractive platform for advertising.

Can Betting On UFC Events Be Profitable?

There is no certainty that betting on MMA and UFC events can be profitable. When talking about profit in simplest terms, it means generating more money than the initial amount. There isn’t any certainty that every bet that would be placed in UFC betting would result in a win. The bettor would have to get lucky every time, and that is near impossible. Even if some magic formula were discovered to make every bet placed to win, it wouldn’t be a good money maker to live off solely.

The UFC alone holds around 10-15 PPV events per year. The top-ranked fighters would probably fight once a year, maybe twice if they’re feeling well enough to do so. The magnitude of top-ranked championship fights is very scarce. Betting on fight nights and undercard bouts can win some money, yes, but it wouldn’t be wise to quit any day job to focus on this.

Is MMA Handicap Betting A Good Strategy?

What usually happens when betting on UFC or MMA fights is that there is a handicap present. It is generally the same as Vegas odds for those who aren’t familiar with what a handicap is. There is a favorite and an underdog in each fight. The amount of money to be won would be dependent on who the bet is placed on.

The bettor should be aware, though, that the favorite and underdog play a considerable role in the outcome of any fight. There is a good reason as to why the favorite is the favorite. Betting on the favorite would mean less money to be won because it is the more probable outcome. On the other hand, betting on the underdog would make for a more significant win because it is against the odds.

To know if the fighter is the favorite or underdog, what to look for are the “+” and “-” symbols beside their names. If a fighter has the “-” sign, it means they are the favorite. The “+” is for the underdog. It means that the fighter with “+150” needs a bet of $100 to win $150. The fighter with “-150” would win a bet of $150, only $100.

Tips To Win When Placing Bets On MMA Matches

Pay Attention To The Weigh-Ins

The weigh-ins are final looks at the fighters before the bout. Weight is an integral part of the performance of fighters. Some don’t perform well at a particular weight, and some do. Some fighters make the targeted weight quickly. Some dehydrate themselves. The disposition of fighters during the weigh-ins would give clear cues as to how the training has transpired.

The Setting of The Fight

Different MMA leagues have other platforms for fighters to battle in. The ring or cage would provide a different performance for fighters because it will affect how they move around. It will also affect their strategy during the fight.

Compared to a ring with four corners, a cage has eight corners. So backing an opponent to a corner would be easier in a cage than in a ring. The ring is surrounded by ropes and a cage with a chain-linked fence wall. These differences play to different fighting styles like stand-up, wrestling, grappling, and jiu-jitsu.

Cage Size

The UFC, where MMA betting is usually wagered on, offers two sizes of cages for fights. One 746 sq. ft. and 518 sq. ft. A smaller cage would mean more action as fighters can’t distance themselves from each other. A larger cage offers more space and movement where fighters can be a little more methodical in their approach.

Favorites Are Bad News

The amount of money that one would get from betting on favorites is significantly less than betting on the underdogs. Numbers and statistics don’t lie. Given that MMA fights don’t often happen, at least not those that generate massive revenue, each bet should win big bucks. Study the odds and make sure the wins make it worth the while.

Where to Find The Best MMA Predictions

Many sites offer “expert” opinions and predictions on who would win each bout—Mmamania.com, pickwise.com, and docsports.com, to name a few. But, the thing with MMA is it is wildly unpredictable. Some fights end in under 20 seconds, and some go the distance.

Superstar matchups like Aldo vs. McGregor ended in one swift punch. The best predictions would come from being a true fan of MMA and seeing for yourself who has the better chance of winning.

MMA betting can help earn big bucks, but it can lose big bucks as well. With all things, bet responsibly and quitting while ahead might be the recipe for success.
