  1. Matt509 Says:

I think Jake Shields could have a decent shot at unthroning theliving legent Silva. Sonnen will kost likely get a rematch. I would love to see a Shields-Sonnen fight.

  2. Mike T Says:

Wow that is a major gap between Spider and everyone else hahaha!

  3. jcs Says:

Round is considered, but the differences are very slight.

  4. Chromium Says:

Okay, I suppose for a computer-model consistency would be required, since it’s rare that partial scorecards are released, so that’s fair. I’m curious though, does your model at least take into account the round a stoppage happened in (or maybe even the minute)? A 3rd round stoppage is _on_average_ going to indicate a less dominant performance for the winner than a 1st round stoppage, let alone a 5th round stoppage. I would’ve figured that, the quality of his performance aside, taking Silva into the 5th round would be just below a decision loss to a computer.

  5. jcs Says:

But this is just one example of many. If there was some database that had all scorecards for partial results, then maybe we could utilize that data.

  6. Chromium Says:

Actually, I believe scorecards were indeed released. In the first four rounds, Sonnen won every single round on every single scorecard, some of them 10-8:

He was up 40-34, 40-36, 40-35. Even leaving out the fact that Chael beat Anderson was obviously winning the fifth round too, that was as razor-close a win as a stoppage can be.

  7. jcs Says:

Nothing to tweak. The computer analyzes results. The result was an Anderson Silva submission win.

If scorecards were released for fights that did not finish, then maybe there would be something to analyze. Otherwise, there’d be a subjective factor involved.

  8. Chromium Says:

I’m sorry, but how can Chael Sonnen actually lose points after that performance? He beat the living shit out of the dominant champion and arguable #1 pound-for-pound fighter on the planet for 22 minutes before getting tapped in a miraculous comeback. You may want to tweak your system a bit here.

  9. Matt Says:

I can’t wait to see a Jake Shields-Anderson Silva fight. I really think Shields could upset Silva. I really like this kid. If he can use his wrestling skills and get in close to Silva then he could do it. But that’s the problem. Getting in close and hitting Silva is almost as hard as getting laid on a first date with a chick you didn’t meat at the bar….

  10. butch Says:

yo BDUB,did you not see the Maia VS. Marquardt fight. It ended in the first round yes with maia being knocked the hell out.
