  1. Neo Says:

Matt, the problem with your ideas is something of an algorithmic issue.

Here’s a simple example of why your idea doesn’t necessarily work, in a hypothetical situation.

    Start of the scenario.
    3 fighters: a, b, c
    a ranked #15
    b ranked #20
    c ranked #100

    c beats b, c raised to #34, b falls to #35.

    Then, b beats a, say 2 months later…
b raises to #19, a falls to #20. How you’d suggest it, c should then raise to #18.

What happens if another 2 months later, a beats c?
You would have in 4 months one fighter beats another, who beats the first. A mess of a circle.

That’s the problem with what you suggest, unfortunately.

  2. jcs Says:

I could counter that by saying it was a bad style matchup for Aoki, and he’s recently the better, and more proven fighter outside of that one match.

We rank based on points.. that’s really the end-all.

  3. Matt Says:

Well if it was a year or two back, then I could see that. Were the fighters have changed, gotten better and worse. But since it was only what 4 months ago, I don’t believe that he should get the nod to be ranked higher.

  4. Deaco Says:

Joseph Duffy of tuf 12 is Irish, not British!

  5. RK Says:

why arnt varner or cerrone on hear

  6. jcs Says:

Then Matt, how far back would you go to make such an adjustment to keep Melendez over Aoki? If the fight was 1 year back, would that be OK? How about 2? This is very subjective. What if Aoki reeled off three wins against Top 10 competition and Melendez still hasn’t had another fight?

We rank on points and the points that Aoki earned in his win over Kawajiri put him back over Melendez.

  7. Matt509 Says:

Will the Florian-Maynard winner fight the Penn-Edgar winner for the title? Cause that would be sick. They should do a 1 day tourny :)

  8. Matt Says:

I ahve to agree with everyone on how is Aoki ranked higher than Melendez? This whole ranking is all bs. You guys say that since someone beat someone else that they will be higher than them. So going by your rules why the hell is Aoki higher than Melendez when Melendez beat Aoki?

So are we now going by if someone is ranked 100 and beats a guy ranked 20th, they go up to like 34, while the other guy goes to 35. Then that guy 35 guy wins and is now higher than the guy he lost to? If your gonna move the 35 guy up, then the 34 guy should also go up. Meaning that the 35 ranked guy’s win should also help the 34th ranked guy.

You guys need to fix something on your ranking system because this is getting rediculous.

  9. Matt509 Says:

KJ Noons looked reall good in his win.

  10. Mike T Says:

I don’t see why Melendez is not #3. Is it because of his suspension? Did Aoki’s recent win catapult him above Melendez really?
