UFC champion not ranked #1

Postby kedbecker » Tue Sep 02, 2014 1:57 pm

If Joe Soto would have won, would he have jumped all the way from #33 to #1?
It doesn't seem reasonable.
I think that if he would have won we would have seen the first time a UFC champion is not ranked #1 since Fedor in 2011. am I right?

Not sure what Soto would have been ranked had he won... but very soon we will have Dos Anjos ranked #1 LW for at least a couple of weeks, because Pettis will be dropped for inactivity before his next fight.

Out of curiosity I ran a test rating set w/ Soto beating Dillashaw by TKO5.

#1 Barao
#2 Soto
#3 Dillashaw

Though... if Barao enters a decay before Soto... You'd probably end up with Soto/Barao/Dillashaw before too long because they are separated by less than 1 point. A KO1 would've been worth microscopically more... maybe that would've got Soto over Barao as well. Either way, basically its a tie.

Looks like it may happen at HW in the next two months:

- [#1] Velasquez drops out for inactivity on 1/12
- [#2] Werdum is fighting [#4] Hunt for the interim title
- [#3] Dos Santos is fighting [#8] Miocic

If Hunt and JDS both win, very possible JDS will end up at #1 after Cain drops off.

Yeah... Not sure how I feel about this. What a weird scenario. Conor needs to fight Edgar ASAP to sort things out.

Edgar was an unusually strong #2, while McGregor was not a very strong #1.

It's odd but understandable. Since they fought, Cormier beat Gustaffson in a very close fight and Silva in a completely meaningless one. Johnson fought three times and stopped all opponents, including first round KOs over two contenders. They're very close in rating points, I don't really have a problem with Johnson edging out Cormier based on their records since the face-to-face matchup.

From the standpoint of this thread... Jones is still the real champion as far as I'm concerned.
